- Serial Cleaner is a fiendish little puzzler where you clean crime scenes and hide evidence
- You may remember it from back in 2019, and it seems that it’s coming back
- But will it be a polished re-release, or just a straight modernisation? We’ll have to see
As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I hear about Serial Cleaner making a comeback. Back in the day, when arcade games ruled supreme and pixelated graphics were all the rage, I remember playing this game on my trusty old Commodore 64. The thrill of cleaning crime scenes, hiding evidence, and outsmarting cops was an exhilarating experience that still resonates with me today.
1970s were an ominous era marked by widespread urban deterioration, fierce street gangs lurking around every corner, bizarre incidents like turkeys dropping from the sky and terrifying shark attacks on the coastline. But let’s not forget that it was also the setting for Serial Cleaner, a game that humorously yet darkly recaptures those times.
Serial Cleaner
If this sounds somewhat reminiscent, you might recognize our 2019 review of Serial Cleaner by Harry Slater. The general opinion was that it was only partially cooked but showed promise. Now, it appears that the developer Plug-In Digital is seizing the chance for a second shot, as they assume publishing responsibilities to reintroduce this puzzle game on mobile devices.
Let’s get funky
Starting from February 11th, 2025, you can pre-register for its re-release, but it remains uncertain if any significant alterations will be made. Considering the somewhat divided response to the initial launch, I suspect there could be chances for improvement, yet realistically speaking, expecting major changes so far ahead might be a bit of a wishful thinking.
Still, I find the concept behind Serial Cleaner very intriguing, but seeing this looks to just be putting it back on mobile does dim my enthusiasm somewhat. Still, for those of you who lament never being able to play it on Android, or it not playing well with newer versions of iOS, maybe this is an early Christmas present?
