Despite having carved out a successful path in comedy, Seth Green – creator of the adult animated series ‘Robot Chicken’ – had an unnerving introduction to the industry when he crossed paths with a former Saturday Night Live cast member, specifically SNL alum Dan Aykroyd. During his stint at Saturday Night Live, Green encountered Aykroyd in the Studio 8 corridors, and the encounter was far from pleasant. Green has spoken about this incident before, but now he reveals that the advice he received afterwards was the sole encouragement he needed to forge ahead.
In a conversation with ComicBook, the star known for franchises such as Austin Powers reminisced about the 20th anniversary of Robot Chicken, the stop-motion sketch show he co-created with Matthew Senreich for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Green was probed regarding an altercation he had with comedy icon Bill Murray when he was only nine, which was connected to his scheduled Weekend Update appearance on SNL.
Not too long ago, Green discussed the incident involving Murray, stating, “He held me above a bin, shouting, ‘Garbage into the garbage!’ while I was yelling and struggling. Inadvertently, my flailing arms made direct contact with his private parts. He tossed me in the bin. The bin shouted for help. I was terrified. I fled to my dressing room, hid beneath the table, and wept uncontrollably.
In a recent chat, the actor disclosed that he hasn’t met Murray since then, yet harbors no ill feelings towards the renowned comedian. Luckily, Green recalls that two more SNL stars stepped in to help, as Eddie Murphy shared guidance that Green would always cherish.
We haven’t crossed paths since then, but here’s the irony: I bear no grudge against him. Intriguingly, it was an influential event in my professional life, though it might seem odd to say so. I was yearning to return home that night, and frankly, that encounter left me shaken, making me question my commitment to the job.
In simpler terms, it was Eddie Murphy and Tim Kazursky who came to my aid when I was young. Eddie said something like, “Hey buddy, don’t allow anyone else to discourage you from doing your part. The show should continue.” This moment is forever etched in my memory.
Besides Green, multiple individuals such as directors and fellow actors have brought up Murray’s questionable behavior on set. Numerous instances of his inappropriate actions during film productions have been discussed. In 2022, Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut titled “Being Mortal” initially included Murray, but the production was halted due to accusations of misconduct against the actor.
Seth Green Likes Playing Howard the Duck in the MCU, But Is There a Future for Him?
Back in that very same interview, I found myself reminiscing about my ventures into voice acting. You see, I dipped my toes into the world of voices back in the early 2000s, lending my tones to shows like “Family Guy.” Since then, I’ve had the privilege of bringing life to significant characters in both films and television series.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I was the one who gave voice to the quirky Howard the Duck when he made his appearance in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. Now, when it comes to whether Marvel Studios is considering a solo project for our feathered friend in the future, well, I did share a few insights during that interview.
Howard seems to blend seamlessly in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe, providing an ideal setting to catch up on his character. We’ve also explored several ‘What If…’ scenarios, giving us a chance to do some interesting things. Howard is quite humorous, isn’t he? Some characters can be popular without leading their own projects. He’s one of those, as we’re still discovering the extent of his mass appeal.
