As a long-time fan of Seth Meyers and his Late Night show, I must admit that I was thoroughly entertained by his recent monologue addressing Tim Walz’ nomination as Democratic Vice President nominee. It’s always a treat to see him back on our screens after a brief hiatus.
On Monday evening, Seth Meyers discussed Tim Walz’ potential nomination as the Democratic vice presidential candidate, after taking a break from his show.
On Monday, Seth Meyers’ Late Night resumed broadcasting following a three-week hiatus, while Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show took a two-week break previously.
In his “A Closer Look” segment on Monday, Meyers catch-upped on a flurry of news items he had missed, such as Joe Biden announcing he wouldn’t run for president in 2024 and Kamala Harris subsequently choosing Walz to be her vice presidential candidate.
Meyers also commented on the growing scrutiny towards the Republican Party by Democrats, labeling its leaders as “unusual.” This trend began after Walz’s appearance on Morning Joe before his selection by Harris, and it has since expanded within the Democratic party, with pundits across the spectrum now focusing their criticisms of Republicans using the term “unusual.” Unsurprisingly, many attribute Walz as the catalyst for this trend.
On Monday’s broadcast, I found myself particularly amused by Donald Trump’s reaction to the peculiar criticisms levied against him. What struck me the most was his remark, “No one has ever labeled me as weird.” As a gamer, it’s always intriguing to see how individuals respond under pressure, and this instance certainly didn’t disappoint!
“Regarding your question, Meyers replied, ‘I’ve built my entire profession around it.’ Originally, his show was named after this very thing. And now, let’s move on to our next segment titled Seth’s Gripe with Democrats.”
Later on in the show, a compilation was played featuring various instances where Meyers had labeled Republicans as peculiar. He then added humorously, “Dear Democrats, it’s alright if you keep labeling the Republicans as strange, but could you perhaps provide a reference next time? I might be boasting a bit, but we’ve been beating that ‘Republicans are peculiar’ drum for around five years now.”
The montage ended with Walz’ famous Morning Joe interview.
“Tim Walz mentioned his TV appearance and is now the vice presidential nominee,” Meyers commented, “while I didn’t even make it to the final round. Could it be because he was a high school football coach and I struggled with catching a flag football incorrectly back then, leaving me with an awkward knuckle on my right ring finger?”
He proceeded to display his finger to the crowd, appropriately describing it as looking quite unusual or bizarre.
