Seven Spies brings espionage and social deduction to mobile

  • Seven Spies is a new take on the social deduction genre
  • Defuse bombs, or ensure that your evil scheme goes off
  • Use spy gadgets to accomplish your mission, straight out of 007

In terms of social deduction games, timeless classics like Werewolf or Mafia don’t require much modification when they transition to mobile. However, Michael Conkin, the developer of Seven Spies, has opted to fully leverage the benefits of digital platforms by offering a completely new, espionage-themed perspective on the genre instead.

In the game, I find myself assembling with my crew of three to six comrades, assuming the cloak and dagger role of undercover agents. Our objective is to infiltrate an embassy and grill various characters to expose the whereabouts of bombs planted by the sinister organization known as Cipher. The challenge lies in defusing these explosives before they detonate.

The surprising part is that certain individuals you consider allies might actually be secret agents working for Cipher. However, it gets even more intriguing! You’ll gain control over some extraordinary espionage devices, including pens that can explode, night-vision eyewear, and other inventions reminiscent of Q-Branch.

What a pity, Mr Bond

Surely, there’s a greater depth to the regulations. You’ll make your moves concurrently following a brief period to choose your action, and agents can only utilize a restricted number of rounds to identify the bomb locations. It is the responsibility of the Cipher agents to either slow down or eliminate these bombs altogether.

It seems that what primarily captures our attention is the integration of these devices. Although it might not mirror GoldenEye exactly, it still introduces thematic elements that are generally absent in many social deduction games, both physical and digital.
