Severance Creator Has 'Mapped Out' a Full Series

As a movie critic who has been following the industry for over three decades now, I must say that the anticipation surrounding the second season of Severance is nothing short of palpable. With its intricate plotlines, stellar cast, and captivating visuals, the show has undeniably left an indelible mark on television drama.

Although the second season of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series premiered in 2022, it hasn’t been aired as of now. A recent interview with the show’s writer and co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri hints that there are plans for more seasons, which have reportedly been outlined by the series creator Dan Erickson and executive producer Ben Stiller. However, Apple TV+ has not yet officially announced whether the sci-fi office drama will continue beyond its second season.

The Apple TV+ series Severance, which premiered in February 2022 and garnered 14 Emmy nominations and two wins during its first season, quickly became popular among audiences. However, with the second season not scheduled until early 2025, fans are growing anxious due to delays in production. Yet, while promoting his YouTube short film Other Other, creator Dan Erickson (El Masri) revealed that during the production of season two, plans for seasons three and beyond were being made. According to El Masri, these future seasons may provide explanations for some of the show’s most intriguing mysteries and potentially feature a time jump to account for the lengthy gaps between releases.

As we eagerly await the continuation of “Severance” in its second season, it’s challenging to envision where this series might head next – yet fans have taken a stab at guessing. However, El Masri hinted at an intricately planned path for the show that promises to keep viewers satisfied with no loose ends or unanswered questions. In his words, “We were always planning ahead to future seasons. Even in Season 2, we discussed the grand finale and how this show comes to a close. A lot of effort went into those discussions.” He also expressed optimism that extended production times for the show wouldn’t become standard practice but ultimately left the decision up to Hollywood.

Will it be approximately three and a half more years before the series releases its third season? I certainly hope not, as an enthusiast. I’d prefer if we didn’t have to endure such a prolonged wait. However, remember, it’s the unpredictable world of Hollywood.

For impatient fans, Apple TV+ has given a short glimpse into season two of the series “Severance”, stating: “In season two, Mark and his companions discover the grave repercussions of meddling with the severance partition, pushing them deeper into a trail of misery.” The addition of notable actors such as Gwendoline Christie from “Game of Thrones”, Alia Shawkat from “Arrested Development”, and John Noble from “Fringe” to the cast offers hints about what lies ahead in the vibrant realm of Lumon Industries, next year.

I must admit, beyond the premiere date (January 17th, 2025), not much else has been disclosed. However, the cast members have hinted that they’re planning to surpass our expectations, adding fuel to the fire of anticipation. As John Turturro put it, “We’re venturing into uncharted territory that the audience is eagerly waiting for, and we’re doing it in stages.” Patricia Arquette, on the other hand, has warned us bluntly to be wary, assuring us that what’s coming will strike fear in our hearts.
