Notable actress Shabana Azmi, fresh from her role in Dabba Cartel, shared insights on the struggles of growing older. She confided that she and Javed Akhtar have noticed an increase in forgetfulness. Moreover, she mentioned that the glamour associated with aging isn’t as alluring as it may seem.
During an interview with India Today, Shabana Azmi pondered on the process of aging and remarked, “As creative individuals, we’re fortunate to have work to anticipate. While we don’t dwell on it daily, we’re mindful that gradually our mental abilities might become less sharp, especially our memory. It seems as though no one’s name stays in our minds forever.
The actress from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani spoke about the difficulties of growing older, stressing the importance of showing more kindness towards seniors. She talked about looking after her mother Shaukat Azmi and choosing to include her in everyday activities instead of keeping her separate.
In a similar vein, she expressed, “Consider old age as our second youth – it may not appear as appealing as before. Yet, remember to cater to the needs of our elderly parents, much like we do for children.” The actress reinforced this notion.
In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, it’s crucial to remember that when families decide to relocate, they often prioritize the well-being of their children but tend to overlook the potential upheaval such changes can cause for elderly parents. It seems we, as society, highly value our elders and view them as blessings, yet we seem to fall short in making a conscious effort to integrate them seamlessly into our daily lives with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Reflecting on her father Kaifi Azmi’s challenges following a stroke that left him partially incapacitated, she underscored the common issue of well-intentioned individuals providing aid inappropriately, causing frustration. She emphasized the emotional strain of witnessing strong, independent parents adapt to requiring assistance and advocated for a more empathetic attitude towards elderly care.
In her latest professional role, Shabana can be found in the Netflix series Dabba Cartel. Joining her in this production are Anjali Anand, Shalini Pandey, and Jyotika. The story revolves around a group of women who run an unconventional underground food delivery service with an intriguing twist. This engaging crime thriller made its debut on Netflix on February 28.
Up next, she will be seen in Lahore 1947, an eagerly awaited film starring Sunny Deol.
