As a seasoned film enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Indian cinema over several decades, I can confidently say that the camaraderie between Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman in their upcoming movie Bun Tikki is a testament to the timeless charm and grace of these two remarkable actresses. Despite not having been particularly close friends over the years, Shabana’s admiration for Zeenat’s politeness and encouragement is evident, a trait that seems to have remained unchanged even after five decades in the industry.
Previously featured in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, Shabana Azmi has been a mainstay in the film industry for more than five decades. This esteemed Indian actress has graced some remarkable films throughout her career. As her new project Bun Tikki approaches its release, she shared insights about her friendship with co-star and fellow veteran actress Zeenat Aman.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Shabana Azmi noted that while she hasn’t been particularly close to her Bun Tikki co-star Zeenat, she has consistently found Zeenat to be both courteous and supportive. In other words, “Over the years, I haven’t had a close relationship with Zeenat, but she has always shown great courtesy and encouragement,” Shabana shared.
Looking back on the memorable times they shared in 1974 while working together, the actress from Mandi fondly recalled that Zeenat Aman, a major star at the time, never displayed any diva-like behavior and was always approachable, even to newcomers like her and Zarina Wahab.
Speaking highly of Zeenat during an interview, actress Shabana Azmi commented, “I first worked with her back in 1974 on the set of ‘Ishk Ishk Ishk.’ At that time, Zarina Wahab and I were both newcomers, but Zeenat was already a major star. Despite her fame, she didn’t act superior or unapproachable on set. This quality still shines through in her today, and I believe it is truly unique about her.”
40 years apart, Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman are coming together again in a film called Bun Tikki. Alongside them, Abhay Deol and Anjali Anand, who gained fame from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, will also be starring in significant roles.
Under the guidance of director Faraz Arif Ansari, the film “Bun Tikki” is being produced by Stage 5 Production, in collaboration with Jio Studios. The main filming for “Bun Tikki” has already been wrapped up, but the producers have not yet determined when it will be released.
