Shah Rukh Khan admits he does not have an agent in Hollywood; says, 'I just want an Indian story…’

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the artistry and influence of global cinema, I must express my admiration for Shah Rukh Khan’s career trajectory and philosophies. With over three decades in the Indian film industry under his belt, King Khan has proven time and again that he is more than just an actor – he is a cultural icon.

Shah Rukh Khan is currently drawing attention for attending the Locarno Film Festival and receiving the Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Tourism award. For more than 30 years, this acclaimed actor has ruled the Indian film industry with an extensive repertoire of almost 100 movies, but he hasn’t stepped into Hollywood yet. When asked about a chance in Hollywood, Shah Rukh Khan jokingly replied, “I need to improve my English skills first.”

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share some intriguing insights I recently stumbled upon. In an exclusive conversation with Variety, our beloved Indian superstar candidly discussed his ambition to conquer Hollywood. He hasn’t yet dived into the vibrant American film scene, but he made it clear that when he does, it will be for a role worthy of the adoration and love showered upon him by his dedicated Indian fans. He acknowledged the global dominance and influence of Hollywood, yet he firmly believes that any role he accepts must live up to the esteem and affection bestowed upon him in his home country.

As a revered figure in Bollywood, I find it crucial to embrace roles that truly reflect the esteem bestowed upon me by the Indian audience. I strive to avoid any disappointment by selecting projects that align with the prestige they’ve granted me. Though I may appear carefree and lighthearted, I deeply value the admiration showered upon me, as it is a heavy responsibility to be an inspiration for many. The respect and generosity shown towards me and my family are not taken lightly; they have paved the way for everything I’ve achieved, not just in India but worldwide among Indian and subcontinent communities.

Shah Rukh Khan mentioned that he hasn’t come across any Hollywood roles that he felt were truly exceptional enough for him to accept. He shared his ambition to make Indian cinema more accessible globally, stressing that his ultimate goal is to play a role, whether as an actor, crew member, producer, writer, or presenter, in making an Indian film reach the same audience as a major Hollywood production. In his words, “I don’t have an agent in Hollywood, and I haven’t actively pursued one either. My aspiration is for one Indian movie to be watched by the same audience that a big Hollywood film attracts, regardless of whether I’m involved in it as an actor, technician, producer, writer, or host. What I truly want is for an Indian tale to be embraced worldwide, and I hope I can contribute to making that happen.”

Currently, the 57-year-old actor is drawing massive crowds in Indian cinema. He returned to work last year following a five-year break with the films Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. These movies accumulated a staggering Rs 2500 crore at box offices worldwide, marking an unprecedented comeback for any actor in history.

In terms of professional endeavors, Shah Rukh Khan is slated to star in an action movie called “King,” directed by Sujoy Ghosh. This film will mark the cinematic debut of his daughter, Suhana Khan. The production for “King” is set to begin at the end of 2024, and it’s anticipated that it will be released the following year.
