As I reflect on my past, I can’t help but smile at the memories of my brief encounter with stardom as Frankie Ramdayal from the iconic movie, Kal Ho Naa Ho. It’s been years since I danced alongside Shah Rukh Khan and partied with Preity Zinta, yet here I am, still recognized by many as that lovable character.
In November 15, 2024, the classic film “Kal Ho Naa Ho” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta will be re-released in theaters. This brings back memories of Frankie Ramdayal, Sweetu’s love interest in the movie. In a recent interview, Dheepesh Bhatt, who is now a fitness coach, reminisced about his past and shared an anecdote from those days. He admitted that he had once snuck into a party with Preity Zinta and Saif, even though he was underage at the time. Interestingly, Preity Zinta is said to have spoken to someone and helped him gain entry into the party.
During an interview with News 18, Dheepesh Bhatt (or Shivohaam) reminisced about the enjoyable times he had with the movie’s co-stars. Interestingly, he clarified that he never experienced being starstruck.
He shared, “Standing beside Shah Rukh Khan, sharing a drink with Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan was truly amazing. It was a great experience, yet I didn’t act like an overly excited fan.
He goes on to say, “Saif and I often discussed workouts, and he proposed we visit the New York Sports Club, conveniently located near where we were staying. Our training sessions were always laid-back. Preity would take us out to party, but I was almost 18, just a couple of months away. They wouldn’t let me enter the club, but she managed to get someone to allow me in.
Shivohaam expressed his astonishment that some individuals continue to call him Frankie Ramdayal. He commented that with his tattoos and beard, he’s surprised when people still identify him, and he frequently ponders about the connection they perceive between the two.
He mentioned that IMDb called Frankie one of the most iconic characters of the past couple of decades, something he never anticipated.
Shivohaam and his spouse continue to ponder over why Frankie stood out so uniquely, a quality he doesn’t seem to recognize in himself. He admitted that acting was never part of his plans, but it appears as though the cosmos had other ideas for him instead.
As I was pursuing my studies at Jai Hind College in Mumbai and also delving into modeling, someone asked me about how I ended up playing a role in Kal Ho Naa Ho. Here’s how I responded:
It came to light that Puneet Malhotra, the film’s casting director and an old school friend, extended an invitation to Shivohaam for an audition as his appearance suited the character ideally. Shivohaam then underwent three rounds of auditions, during which Malhotra informed him that acting wasn’t his greatest skill.
