As a die-hard fan of the legendary Shah Rukh Khan, every piece of news about him feels like a treasure trove waiting to be unearthed! The recent award he received at the Locarno Film Festival and his heartfelt reflections on Devdas have only solidified my admiration for him.
Shah Rukh Khan, preparing for his highly anticipated movie “King,” has made history as the first Indian to win the Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Tourism award at the Locarno Film Festival. This esteemed honor was presented during the festival in Switzerland, where Shah Rukh’s 2002 film, Devdas, was showcased for viewers.
Before the screening began, Shah Rukh Khan disclosed during a masterclass at the Locarno Film Festival that his production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, had purchased the rights to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial, Devdas, some time ago. He described working on this film as one of the most memorable experiences in his career.
“This was truly one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve ever had. In fact, our production company felt compelled to purchase the rights for this movie, an achievement I am deeply proud of.” – SRK expressed.
Shah Rukh Khan reminisced about the enduring impact of Devdas while discussing the strategies behind the release of the 2002 movie adaptation. He explained that when Sanjay Leela Bhansali expressed interest in directing the film, it seemed like an old-fashioned idea due to the existence of 18 previous versions. Under immense pressure to create a fresh interpretation for audiences, the team worked tirelessly to bring a new perspective to this classic tale on screen.
The star, who shines brightly, pointed out that during those days, India was experiencing a transformation toward a more open-minded society. He further mentioned that people in the past also enjoyed watching carefree movies such as college musicals.
In simpler terms, the actor from the movie Devdas once referred to it as the costliest Indian production during a time when the film faced financial troubles, with its original producers reportedly disappearing from the scene.
In a conversation about his time on the set of Devdas, SRK expressed that he had a wonderful experience, as he honored his mother’s appreciation of the 2002 film. The esteemed actor disclosed that there were suggestions for him not to join Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s project, as some believed it wasn’t suitable for him. However, he chose to be part of it to complete an unfulfilled ambition and in tribute to his mother.
In addition to Shah Rukh Khan, the movie Devdas featured Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, and several others. This film was adapted from the 1917 novel of the same name penned by the renowned author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
