Sharvari reveals she auditioned for Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 but wasn’t selected; says ‘Luv Ranjan really liked my audition but…’

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I have been captivated by Sharvari’s journey from being an assistant director to a promising actress. Her unique path into the industry is not just intriguing but inspiring as well.

Sharvari initially sought a role in Luv Ranjan’s 2015 movie “Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2” as an actress, but ended up working behind the scenes as an assistant director instead. In an interview with Galatta Plus, she shared that at the age of 17, she was invited to audition for this romantic comedy film.

“Luv Ranjan commented that the movie was an adult film and he didn’t expect me to fit in or realize I was so young. However, he liked my audition, and I recall asking him if I could assist instead. When he asked what type of assistant director role I preferred, I was unsure. Luv then made me a Director’s Assistant (DA) initially.” Sharvari further explained this interaction, adding that she didn’t know the different roles an AD might have at that time.

The 27-year-old explained, “I followed Luv sir throughout this entire process each day, learning about scheduling and music. I’d bring my notebook along, trying to grasp things, and when we went on set, I took on the role of a clapboard assistant director.” It was then that Sharvari understood that being a clap AD is ideal for an actor because they serve as a mediator between the director and performer.

Sharvari recounted that since the director rarely gives direct instructions to actors about line adjustments or emotional changes, it is only the clapboard assistant who can overhear these discussions from nearby. Following her role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sharvari assumed a clapboard assistant position on the set of Bajirao Mastani in the same year. She also admitted to fiercely competing for the position of clapboard assistant. “It’s been quite an adventure,” she said.

After appearing in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film The Forgotten Army, the actress assumed the AD role in Luv Ranjan’s 2018 movie Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety before finally making her acting debut with Bunty Aur Bubly 2 in 2021. Recently, she has been involved in several successful projects such as Munjya and Maharaj. Sharvari will next be seen alongside Alia Bhatt in YRF’s film Alpha.
