Shatrughan Sinha recalls helping Sanjay Dutt get out of jail, admits being ghosted by him today: ‘Dhundhte reh jaaoge’

Shatrughan Sinha and the late iconic actor Sunil Dutt maintained a close, affectionate friendship. More recently, Sinha participated in the launch of producer Rajan Lall’s biography and reminisced about the past when Sanjay Dutt was incarcerated for a prolonged period. He spoke about how he assisted Sanjay Dutt in securing his release from prison with help from Rajan and Balasaheb Thackeray.

In the conversation, Shatrughan Sinha mentioned that Sunil Dutt was more like an older brother to him. He recalled spending evenings with him, Rajan Lall, and Shashi Ranjan, braving the treacherous and perilous streets during the Mumbai riots. It was during those times when Sanjay Dutt faced difficulties after being imprisoned.

Sinha expressed that they were truly anxious and concerned about securing Sunil Dutt’s son’s release from prison. He shared that they felt fortunate to have “Maharashtra’s lion, mentor, or protector Balasaheb Thackeray” supporting them during this time. The esteemed actor disclosed the significant part the renowned politician played in Sanjay Dutt’s legal case.

If Sanjay Dutt were here today, it would have been very pleasant for him, considering his recent release from jail or the amenities available there, as he expressed.

Shatrughan Sinha recalled that following his release from prison, Munna Bhai MBBS actor made a beeline for his house after paying respects at the Siddhivinayak temple. Subsequently, they both visited Rajan Lall’s residence, offered congratulations and engaged in lengthy conversations.

After that, the tale took several unexpected paths. Ever since, we’ve been searching for Sanjay quite extensively, with Rajan Lall leading the effort. He has made attempts both directly in front of us and indirectly through our connections. However, finding Dutt saheb’s son remains elusive, which has given rise to a ‘Keep on Searching’ (loosely translated from Hindi).

In summary, the former actor-turned-politician clarified his stance, emphasizing that this doesn’t imply that Sanju isn’t a kind individual. Instead, he suggested, there could be explanations, challenges, or perhaps he’s occupied due to specific obligations.

For those who may not be aware, Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned for a term of five years due to possessing an AK-56 assault rifle and his association with the 1993 Mumbai bombings.
