Sheinelle Jones, co-host of NBC’s Today show, has shared that she will be stepping away temporarily to handle a personal family health issue. This news was made public on her Instagram account earlier today, and during the 8 a.m. broadcast, co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin acknowledged the situation at the program’s start.
Many of you have been inquiring about Sheinelle and feeling her absence, and we share your sentiments,” Guthrie stated. “We can’t wait for the day when she returns, as we all adore her,” Melvin expressed.
I’ve been a part of the Today show family for over a decade now, stepping into the weekend edition of the morning program back in 2014. In 2019, I was honored to be named co-host for the third hour of the show, where I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Dylan Dreyer, Melvin, and other exceptional talent from both the program and NBC News.
Over the last several weeks, her absence from the program has sparked some fans to ponder the reasons behind it.
Her absence also came as the Today show has been undergoing significant changes in recent weeks.
On Monday, Craig Melvin began his new role as the main co-host, sitting alongside Savannah Guthrie at the anchor desk of the Today show for the first time officially.
Melvin took over from Hoda Kotb, who revealed her intention to leave last year and bid farewell this past Friday. Starting from now, Kotb is moving into a new position within NBC News.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: During the fourth hour of Today, where I’ve been tuning in alongside Jenna Bush Hager, Kotb’s departure caused quite a stir. For now, the show has been temporarily renamed Today with Jenna & Friends, with various guest hosts taking turns until NBC finds a permanent co-host for Jenna.
