Although CBS renewed nine shows simultaneously last month, unfortunately, the series “S.W.A.T.” didn’t make the cut. The network decided to cancel it for a third time. Following the climactic finale in May on the 2025 TV schedule, viewers may have to bid farewell to 20-Squad permanently this time around. As filming comes to an end, Shemar Moore and the cast can’t help but feel emotional about the series conclusion, and I must admit, it’s leaving me quite sentimental as well.
Over the weekend Moore shared a video on Instagram featuring him and his co-stars talking about what S.W.A.T. has meant to them, whether over the last eight years, few years, or even just several months. Of course, Moore is also not one to back down from a fight, urging fans in the caption to “make some noise” and directing them to a link to a petition in his bio to try to save the series once again:

It’s unclear whether it’s the finality of S.W.A.T. or the poignant music and emotional reflections from the cast that are stirring up feelings in me, but I find myself as emotional as they appear to be. Members like David Lim, Jay Harrington, Anna Enger Ritch, Niko Pepaj, Patrick St. Esprit, Annie Ilonzeh, and Moore have shared their thoughts on the CBS series, and it’s evident that many, if not all, were fighting back tears. This just goes to show that the 20-Squad is more than just a screen family; they are a family behind the scenes as well, regardless of how long someone has been associated with the show.
There’s a chance that S.W.A.T. could get renewed again, either by CBS or another network, but for now, the cast is getting ready for whatever lies ahead. A series can only be revived so many times before it’s truly over, and it appears as though the cast understands this, even if Moore remains hopeful.

Each year when I hear that S.W.A.T. has been taken off the air once more, I can’t help but share my thoughts. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate CBS for giving us eight seasons and even bringing it back twice, but a part of me still wishes for more. I’ve thrown out a plea to streaming platforms like Netflix, hoping that they might give our show a new home. It seems like SEAL Team found its way onto Paramount+, so perhaps S.W.A.T. could follow suit. But since the first seven seasons are available with a Netflix subscription, there’s also a chance it could stay put. Of course, all this depends on if CBS Studios and Sony Television are open to shopping the show around.
It’s unfortunate that May is shaping up to be a tough month for fans, as CBS has decided to end three popular dramas, including S.W.A.T., both versions of FBI. This is when many finales will air and it seems that new episodes of these shows might be their last. Despite the sad news, S.W.A.T.’s double reprieve is quite impressive. Moreover, the cast’s friendship won’t fade away, and they’ll likely still spend time together from time to time, which is better than nothing. Fresh episodes of S.W.A.T. will return on April 4 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, with the option to stream it the next day if you have a Paramount+ subscription.
