Shiloh Jolie, Daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Officially Drops Pitt Surname

As a long-time fan who has watched the rollercoaster ride that is the Jolie-Pitt family saga, I find it both intriguing and heartwarming to see Shiloh take this significant step towards asserting her identity. It’s a testament to her maturity and self-determination, traits she seems to have inherited from both her parents.

One of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s six children has officially dropped “Pitt” from her name.

On Monday, a court in Los Angeles approved a request by the third-oldest child of the ex-pair to officially change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to simply Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

She submitted her petition for a name change on her eighteenth birthday, which was May 27th.

Multiple sources have shared that some of the Jolie-Pitt children have unofficially omitted Pitt from their surnames, but it’s Shiloh who has legally initiated the process. Interestingly, their daughter Vivienne was credited in a Broadway program for The Outsiders as “Vivienne Jolie.”

Apart from Shiloh and Vivienne, their previous relationship also produced four additional kids – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Knox.

Actress Angelina Jolie, who gained prominence in the ’90s, petitioned to officially remove her father Jon Voight’s last name from her own in 2002, following reports of a strained relationship, and thus legally adopted her current surname.

Pitt and Jolie had been together as romantic partners for about ten years before they got married in 2014. However, Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and a judge declared them single in 2019. Despite this, their divorce case is not yet finalized because custody and financial matters are still being debated.

In recent times, the actors have initiated legal actions against one another due to disputes concerning their joint businesses and real estate, such as a vineyard located in France.

In a court document submitted in 2022, Jolie claimed that during a flight in 2016, Pitt forcefully gripped her head, shaking it violently, before allegedly strangling one of their children and physically attacking another who attempted to intervene on her behalf.

Representatives for Shiloh did not return requests for comment.

The news of the petition being granted was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.
