- Crunchyroll is set to expand its catalogue with a new exclusive release for Ani-May
- It sees Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town arrive exclusively on mobile
- The life-sim sees you explore both the countryside of Akita and the mysterious Coal Town
Crunchyroll is planning to enlarge its collection of unique anime titles even more by launching Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town exclusively on mobile devices. Just like other offerings from Crunchyroll, this new title will be accessible only through their subscription service as part of the massive Ani-May release lineup.
To clarify for those who might be unfamiliar, Crayon Shin-Chan is similar to Doraemon, a beloved Japanese manga character that’s not as widely recognized outside Japan. It follows the daily escapades of Shinnosuke Nohara and his family, friends, and acquaintances.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town isn‘t just about Shinnosuke and his pals from the show, it also pays homage to another beloved classic, My Summer Vacation for the PlayStation One. This game is more than a sequel; it’s a spiritual successor that has only recently graced our screens in the West. Yet, for many of us who cherish its charm, it’s an instant recognition, reminding us of the magic we experienced years ago.
Summertime
Regardless of your feelings towards the series or your memories of Boku No Natsuyasumi (also known as My Summer Vacation), Shiro and the Coal Town offers a wealth of enjoyable features. You’ll immerse yourself in the daily activities of Shin Chan, who adventures through the countryside of Akita, causing all sorts of trouble while engaging in various activities like fishing and gardening, as well as minigames.
If the scenic beauty of Japan’s countryside doesn’t quite satisfy you, venture into the enigmatic Coal Town instead for a more whimsical twist on your summer getaway. This unique setting adds an intriguing layer to the life simulation genre, offering numerous activities and sights to explore.
