In a legal development stemming from sexual abuse accusations made against Neil Gaiman, the author renowned for his Sandman series, one of the accusers, Scarlett Pavlovich, has officially filed a lawsuit not only against him but also his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer. These allegations initially surfaced in July 2024 following an exposé by Tortoise Media, and since then, numerous other women have shared their experiences of being victimized by this influential figure.
A legal complaint was submitted on February 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, where Gaiman resides, charging him with a prolonged pattern of sexual misconduct that Palmer was aware of. According to Pavlovich, Palmer befriended her during a challenging phase in her life marked by housing instability, financial troubles, and mental health issues. Eventually, she was brought into contact with Gaiman, who hired her as their nanny while they were living in New Zealand.
The suit further claims appalling instances of sexual and psychological abuse that Pavlovich is said to have experienced, which are fully outlined in the linked lawsuit for your reading convenience. Moreover, it implicates both Gaiman and Palmer in human trafficking, suggesting that Gaiman’s actions were designed to compel Scarlett to provide sexual services and childcare under the threat of harm or restraint if she did not comply.
As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but express my hope that my lawsuit will eventually reach a trial jury. In this quest, I am striving for restitution, an amount that is reasonably anticipated to surpass $1 million dollars. This reparation is meant to cover various aspects of my ordeal, such as physical harm, emotional and psychological distress, economic losses both in the past and future, impairments to my physical condition including PTSD, anxiety, depression (all brain-related conditions), lost career opportunities, punitive damages, prejudgment interest, legal fees, expenses, costs, and any other related disbursements.
Neil Gaiman Denies Any Wrongdoing
Though Gaiman hasn’t responded publicly to the lawsuit as of Feb. 3, he did speak out about the accusations earlier on Jan. 14 through his website. On his blog, he declared that he has never been involved in any non-consensual sexual activity with anyone, at any point in time.
I revisited the conversations I had with various women, particularly after it was reported that they were abusive. Upon review, these messages still appear as they did when I initially read them – they depicted two individuals engaged in completely consensual sexual relationships who desired to meet again. During those relationships, they felt positive and joyful on both ends.
In his own words, Neil Gaiman acknowledged being emotionally detached while still open for romantic involvement. He admitted he was reckless with people’s feelings and emotions. Moreover, many of the stories shared on social media are either fabricated or have been so significantly altered from the truth that they no longer resemble reality.
Regarding Palmer, she initiated divorce proceedings with Gaiman in 2022, but has remained silent on the abuse allegations publicly. On her Instagram account, she explained that due to ongoing custody and divorce matters, she can’t provide a public statement. She emphasized that above all else, she is a parent and asked for privacy during this time.
