In October 2024, the Netflix series “Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black” took a break mid-season and resumed on March 6, 2025. This captivating soap opera revolves around Kimmie, played by Taylor Palidore Williams, an ambitious dancer who undergoes a whirlwind of transformation when she gets accepted into a prestigious haircare school, owned by a well-known family and managed by Mallory Bellaire (Crystle Stewart).
As a movie reviewer, I’d say: “My initial take on this show was that it promised a fresh start for Kimmie in her new community, but things soon took a sinister turn with kidnapping, extortion, and ultimately murder lurking just beneath the surface. It turns out that this community, despite its veneer of normality, was as criminal as her old one.
The show has faced heavy criticism for its heavy-handed stereotypes and crude misogyny. However, the final six episodes manage to weave a complex web of twists and turns that help clear up some of the confusion and offer audiences a satisfying resolution.
Where the Mid-Season Finale Left Us
The narrative centers around Kimmie (Taylor), a dancer in the exotic realm, who gets a second chance at life upon gaining admission to an elite hair-care institution managed by the Bellaire family, under the supervision of Mallory Bellaire. Accompanied by her closest friend and fellow stripper Rain (Amber Reign Smith), Kimmie’s new beginning takes a turn for the worse as she uncovers illegal activities happening within the hair-care school. As they reveal the wrongdoings committed by Mallory and her associates, their actions draw unwanted attention and danger towards them.
Among the colorful cast of characters I find myself intertwined with, there’s Mallory’s troubled husband Roy (Julian Horton), her strong-willed mother Olivia (Debbi Morgan), the authoritative family head Horace (Ricco Ross), Horace’s wise elder brother Norman (Richard Lawson), and our youngest kin, Charles (Steven G. Norfleet).
The mid-season finale saw Kimmie’s sister Sylvie (played by Bailey Tippen) being kidnapped by the strip club manager Body (portrayed by Tamera Kissen). As Kimmie and Rain uncover connections between the crimes at the hair school and their strip club, tensions rise and those close to them find themselves in danger. In the Part 2 premiere, Kimmie tracked down Body in a parking lot but instead of killing him, she turned her rage towards Delinda (Ursula O. Robinson), owner of Delinda’s Dolls and Dudes strip club, by firing a shotgun at her head.
‘Beauty in Black’ Ending, Explained
With crimson stains on her palms, Kimmie finds herself with no choice but to move forward as the drama series, “Beauty and Black,” wraps up Season 1 Part 2. Yet, a glimmer of hope arises for Kimmie when Horace unexpectedly proposes marriage to her, hoping to prevent his children from inheriting his wealth. Horace makes this proposal on his deathbed in the hospital, driven by a desire to secure one final triumph against his cruel and covetous family.
Kimmie faces a dilemma: marrying Horace, despite his harsh treatment towards his children, seems like a solution to her financial problems. However, if she proceeds with the marriage, she will likely incur the wrath of his family who are not happy about the prospect of Kimmie becoming their potential mother and inheritor.
After pondering for some time, Kimmie decides to go ahead with Horace’s proposal of marriage, even though it could potentially trigger a series of troubles. Sharing the news with her friend Rain, Rain swiftly looks up Horace’s net worth on the internet and informs Kimmie that she could potentially inherit as much as $376 million, an enormous amount that she finds hard to resist. For Kimmie, erasing her debts with such a substantial wealth would bring her tranquility, but there are other factors influencing her decision to marry Horace.
Above all else, Kimmie cherishes the prospect of being an official resident of Bellaire, with its luxurious appeal, status, and authority that accompanies it. She decides to marry Horace for this reason, seeking to broaden her influence in Chicago, aid others such as Rain, and enjoy the benefits of celebrity life. For example, when Kimmie, as a Bellaire, requests the hospital to keep Sylvie, they agree rather than transferring her to a less prestigious facility. To Kimmie, becoming a Bellaire is paramount, regardless of any potential compromises she may have to make.
Will There Be a ‘Beauty in Black’ Season 2?
As of now, Netflix hasn’t confirmed a second season for “Beauty in Black”. But, Tyler Perry has hinted at more episodes on Instagram, exciting fans.
As for the upcoming season’s plotlines and fresh faces that are yet to be revealed, I’m thrilled to share that our beloved character Kimmie, played by Williams, is set to make a comeback. In an interview with TV Line, she shared her excitement about rejoining the cast.
I have a feeling about what will transpire, and I’m making an effort to remain silent. However, let me confirm that this is only the start of her upcoming experiences.
When the beloved soap opera makes its comeback, we can expect that it will delve into Kimmie’s latest marriage to Horace, along with the efforts of his family to sabotage their union in order to keep hold of the family fortune.
In the season finale of the first series, a lingering question remains about Olivia Bellaire receiving a subpoena from attorney Lena (Ashley Versher). Instead of complying, Olivia confronts Lena and, intentionally provoking her, leads to Lena slapping Olivia. Olivia secretly films this incident on her phone and threatens to expose it if Lena doesn’t withdraw the case. For now, Lena has backed off, but she may return in Season 2 of ‘Beauty in Black’ to take on Olivia’s controversial beauty empire.
