Actor Cosmo Jarvis, who is known for his role in “Shōgun”, is among those being whispered as potential candidates for the next James Bond. During the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday evening, where “Shõgun” received several nominations, he briefly addressed these rumors.
During their celebration after the FX series won four Golden Globe awards last night, including Best Drama Series, a reporter from Deadline asked Jarvis about the rumors suggesting he might take on the role of 007. Jarvis appeared puzzled by this query.
Jarvis replied, “I’m sorry, but I’m not sure how to build a… I hope they have great success in their quest.
It was fitting that Jarvis appeared to delight in assisting his Shōgun co-stars as they celebrated their Golden Globe awards. These accolades included Anna Sawai’s victory for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama, Hiroyuki Sanada’s win for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama, and Tadanobu Asano’s recognition as the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television.
It’s quite beneficial for the James Bond franchise to receive well-wishes from Jarvis, given the current strife it’s facing. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, there seems to be tension between Amazon Studios, new owners of MGM (the previous production house), and the Broccoli family, who oversee the James Bond series.
Despite Amazon Studios aiming to earn maximum profits by creating multiple spin-offs and series from the franchise, the Broccoli family is keen on maintaining the James Bond series for the big screen. With Daniel Craig’s last appearance as 007 in 2021’s “No Time to Die,” the James Bond franchise seems to be experiencing a mix of turbulence and excitement.
What’s Next for ‘Shōgun’ and Cosmo Jarvis?
The characters from “Shogun” and Cosmo Jarvis, portraying John Blackthorne, are both looking ahead. Initially planned as a limited series, “Shogun” is now in early stages of production for its second season, primarily because of the positive reception Season 1 has garnered.
After breaking Emmy records with multiple wins in September, John Landgraf, head of FX Content and FX Productions, provided updates about the series’ advancement.
As I eagerly embark on this exciting journey, scripts and outlines are steadily pouring in. The challenge now lies in deciding where our next shoot will take place – will it be a reprise of the previous location, or shall we opt for something new and different? Either way, the anticipation is palpable as we delve deeper into this creative process.
Jarvis is coming back for Season 2 of “Shōgun” and is also working on a project with Robert De Niro. The miniseries “Alto Knights” portrays the rivalry between two powerful mob bosses, Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, who were at the helm of New York’s criminal underworld in the 1950s and ’60s, with De Niro playing both roles.
As a cinephile, I found myself captivated by the intriguing narrative of “Alto Knights,” a film that masterfully portrays the enigmatic life of Vincent Gigante, played by none other than Jarvis. Known as “The Oddfather,” Gigante was a former boxer who walked the streets of Greenwich Village in his bathrobe, seemingly lost in his own thoughts, muttering to himself.
Directed by the talented Barry Levinson, this gripping drama also features notable performances from Debra Messing and Kathrine Narducci. Mark your calendars for its release on March 21, as you won’t want to miss this compelling portrayal of a man who defied expectations in the world of organized crime.
