At long last, the Silent Hill 2 Remake has arrived! Many believe it’s a formidable candidate for Game of the Year, boasting potential to match or even surpass the acclaim garnered by Metaphor: ReFantazio and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
With the game now out and players exploring the misty avenues of Silent Hill while enjoying themselves, a single query persists: In this remake, how many different endings can we expect?
The Silent Hill 2 Remake offers a total of eight conclusions, including the original six – Leave, Maria, In Water, Rebirth, UFO, and Dog – along with two freshly added ones: Bliss and Stillness.
Although there are minor adjustments to the requirements, individuals who have previously played it will find it relatively straightforward to grasp the new guidelines.

Leave Ending
For those who leisurely strolled through the streets of Silent Hill without a thorough investigation, the Easy Ending is likely the most attainable. This is assured for casual players.
To complete this game, simply follow the usual course of action. However, pay close attention to these additional details: Keep your health at maximum (green), examine Mary’s letter and photograph, and listen carefully to the entire discussion in the extended corridor preceding the final boss.
An essential action is consistently avoiding interacting with Maria when she’s present. By doing this, you can steer clear of the “Maria Ending.” If your goal is to achieve a different outcome, concentrate on completing the game in its standard fashion instead.
This is considered by many as the Good Ending. but not a lot of fans agree with it.
Maria Ending
In the Maria ending, things take a turn opposite to Leave. Here, instead of moving forward, James finds himself back in the loop of sorrow and desolation.
This is the hardest to acquire and can’t be done if you are not thorough with your playthrough.
In order to obtain this ending, make sure to engage with Maria whenever possible. Opportunities to converse with her arise at specific points in the story, like when you’re positioned before the Baldwin Mansion or when you come across her reminiscing about her old dress from the initial game.
Another thing to remember is you need to constantly check up on her in the Hospital and Labyrinth Area, as this will net you big points to secure this ending.
Important aspects also involve overhearing only parts of a conversation down the hall, selecting the Mature Fruit during the Reflection Enigma, and employing the Crimson Oval Gate.
The points will build up. You’ll recognize the Maria Ending when Mary appears on the bed during the concluding stage. (Informal and conversational)
In Water Ending
The In Water Ending is a darker conclusion to the story. Some say it’s the canonical ending to James’ journey, as it involves him succumbing to his grief and trauma.
Getting this requires a bit of work, but not as tedious as the Maria Ending. The main takeaway here is we need to completely ignore James’ health. Keeping his Health at a constant Red Bar for longer periods of time will add points to the In Water Ending.
The implication of the game suggests that it’s best not to rely on recovery items consistently. Instead, let James face the challenges as they come.
It’s also worth mentioning that inspecting Angela’s Knife multiple times will accumulate points as well. Not listening to the hallway conversation and ignoring the letters and photos of Mary also helps.
The Rebirth Ending
To experience the ‘Rebirth’ ending, you need to play through the game initially and complete it. Once that’s done, you have the opportunity to select one of the original three endings when starting a new game with increased difficulty, which is referred to as New Game+.
The Rebirth ending involves the occult and Lovecraftian gods that reportedly terrorized the town.
To get this concluding piece, you need to gather four objects that appear during your New Game Plus mode. They are the Crimson Ceremony Manuscript, Pure Anointing Oil, Obsidian Chalice, and the Missing Recollections slip.
Dog & UFO Endings
In the remake, both the humor-laden conclusions, “Dog” and “UFO”, remain intact. Finding them might prove challenging since they exclusively appear when playing in New Game+ mode, requiring players to thoroughly explore every corner of the town.
Without giving away the outcomes, let me share with you a starting point for your adventure instead.
In the ‘Dog Finale’, your task is to gather two crucial components that together make up a Canine Key. One piece of this key is hidden at the Pet Center, which is located near Big Jay’s Diner, on Neely Street.
You can find another key on South Vale, specifically its western side, right after the Baldwin Mansion. Look for it within a doghouse.
Combining both keys can be used to unlock the Observation Room Door in the final level of the game. This Ending completely removes the final boss fight and will end the story immediately after the special cutscene.
To kick off your adventure post obtaining the Radio, gamers should gather the Blue Gem hidden in East South Vale, which serves as an initial step in the UFO Ending scenario.
The Blue Gem is situated near the Pet Center; more precisely, within the Jeweler’s store. If you look closely, you’ll notice a broken spot on the shop window. Inside that store, hidden in a chest, you’ll discover the Blue Gem.
To continue your quest for the UFO finale, you’ll need to discover four key locations where UFOs are frequently spotted within Silent Hill. These spots have been strategically placed across various game areas. Your journey begins atop the Saul Street Apartments rooftop, where the first hotspot is hidden.
When you’re close to a known UFO location, an unusual, otherworldly sound effect will echo. To verify this, simply examine your Blue Gem item from your inventory, and it will start glowing.
The next three locations are found in Rosewater Park, Toluca Lake, and Room 312 in the final level.
Two New Endings
For the Remake, Bloober Team and Konami have added two unique finishes – The Tranquility and Joyful Conclusions. These additional endings can only be accessed when you start over with New Game+. However, trophy/achievement seekers shouldn’t fret as these new conclusions won’t affect a full 100% completion status.
As a fanatic of this thrilling game, I found that unlocking the tranquil conclusion, dubbed the Bliss Ending, necessitates some clever maneuvers. You see, it involves cracking the code on a safe tucked away in Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama. The secret combination? A nostalgic number sequence – 1887. Once you’ve successfully cracked it, you’ll be rewarded with a special key. This key, my friend, is to open a modest treasure chest hidden within the walls of Brookhaven Hospital. Quite an adventure, isn’t it?
In the opening scene of the game, following your encounter with Angela in the cemetery, you’ll come across an event known as the “Stillness Ending”. This involves locating a Key of Sorrow within a green vehicle on Wiltse Road.
After getting the key, proceed with playing the game as usual until reaching the last stage. In the alternate reality known as the Manager’s Office in the Otherworld, you’ll find a secret safe. Inputting the code “314” will open it and grant you the Toluca Postcard as a prize.
Instead of concluding like the Dog and UFO finishes which happen unexpectedly, you’ll need to defeat the final boss first to access these new, unfolding conclusions.
