Silo Creator Graham Yost Teases the End of Apple's Hit Sci-Fi Show

As a dedicated fan who has eagerly devoured every morsel of sci-fi content Apple TV+ has to offer, I must admit that Graham Yost‘s recent comments about the future of Silo left me feeling a tad bittersweet. On one hand, it’s heartening to know that the series won’t be stretched beyond its source material, much like a rubber band being pulled too far and snapping. On the other hand, four or five seasons doesn’t seem nearly enough for the rich, intricate world of Silo and its captivating characters.

As we eagerly await the release of Silo Season 2 in a month, the creator of the popular Apple TV+ science fiction series has shared some insights about its longevity. Unfortunately for fans hoping for a prolonged run, they may be disappointed. Debuting in 2023, Silo quickly gained popularity on Apple, earning widespread critical acclaim due to the exceptional acting of Tim Robbins and Rebecca Ferguson, who has endeared herself to audiences since her standout roles in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the 2019 horror film Doctor Sleep.

In an interview with Total Film (through GamesRadar), creator Graham Yost shared some insights about the series ‘Silo’, based on the books by Hugh Howey. He revealed that they have a strategy for how the story would unfold if given the chance to complete it, but he didn’t specify an exact number of seasons. He mentioned, “That figure is between me and my colleagues at Apple TV Plus.

In essence, Yost pointed out that since the source material is just a trilogy, we shouldn’t expect the TV adaptation to span beyond what’s written in the books. He clarified that it’s not like “Outlander,” which has nine novels, but assured fans that all their questions will eventually be addressed.

The series consists of three books, not the Outlander series or an extensive science fiction saga. We don’t plan to expand it further than this trilogy. While we aim for an engaging experience without leaving questions unanswered, our intention is to reveal information in a coherent manner so that when our characters discover something, the audience does too at approximately the same time.

What Graham Yost’s Comments Mean for the Future of Silo

Based on the structure of Howey’s “Wool” novels, if the Silo TV series follows this pattern, we might expect it to last for at least three seasons. The first season aligns with the ending of part three, and since there are five parts in total, we have two more parts left. Given that Season 2 consists of ten episodes, it’s likely that the series will reach the end of “Wool” and potentially extend into the second book, “Shift”.

Given Silo’s current trajectory, it seems reasonable to assume that fans might get around 4 to 5 seasons in total if Apple decides to renew it annually. However, given their efforts to reduce expenses and cancel shows prematurely, this is quite a challenge at the moment. But since Silo is set to begin its second season next month, if the ratings stay high according to them, it’s likely they’ll keep it in their lineup. This is especially probable since Apple has seen great success with other sci-fi shows like Severance, Foundation, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
