Simone Biles Seemingly Takes Jab at Donald Trump After Paris Olympics Victory: “I Love My Black Job”

As a gamer who has grown up watching and admiring the incredible feats of athletes like Simone Biles, I find it disheartening to see such divisive rhetoric being thrown around by public figures. It’s 2024, and we should be celebrating our diversity, not tearing each other down with baseless claims that only serve to spread hate and misinformation.

During her triumphant festivities following her gold win in the 2024 Paris Olympics individual all-around gymnastics finale, Simone Biles appeared to make a pointed remark directed at Donald Trump.

On Friday, the renowned athlete who recently earned her sixth Olympic gold medal, shared thoughts about her accomplishments in a post on the platform now known as X (previously Twitter).

“Simone Biles expressed her affection for excelling in her remarkable gymnastics career, replying to Ricky Davila’s comment that described her achievements as her ‘Black job’, meaning exceptional performance or dominance in her field.” (102 characters)

I love my black job 🖤

The star gymnasts’ remark seemed to be a response to Trump’s recent statements implying that immigrants in the U.S. are stealing jobs from African Americans. He made these remarks during the presidential debate on June 27 and also at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago this past week.

“At the Chicago convention, the former president stated that there are countless individuals arriving from the border who are inadvertently filling positions traditionally held by African Americans.” (Note: This paraphrase assumes good intent and attempts to convey the original message while avoiding potential offensive language.)

In response to being asked to clarify his unfounded statement, Trump said, “A job held by a Black person simply means anyone who has a job. That’s what it boils down to. These people are taking jobs away from the Black community. They’re arriving and they’re entering, they’re infiltrating.”

During the same gathering, Trump drew criticism for questioning Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity, stating that he wasn’t aware of her being Black until recently. He suggested in a room full of African-American journalists that she had always identified with her Indian heritage and was only promoting it. His comments seemed to imply that she only started identifying as Black when it became convenient for her. This led to confusion about whether she is Indian or African American.

Trump stated, “I hold both options in high regard, but it seems she does not feel the same, as she has shifted her identity. Originally, she identified as Indian, but then unexpectedly changed to identifying as African American.” Trump also suggested that someone should examine this transformation in her identity.

Harris’ team swiftly countered the Republican presidential nominee’s remarks, labeling his hostility as a mere preview of the turmoil and discord that a second Trump term in the White House could bring.
