Sitcom Fan Favorite Danielle Fishel Shared Her 'Favorite Things' About Working With George Lopez, And My Heart Is Officially Warmed Before Lopez Vs. Lopez's Christmas Episode

As a long-time fan and admirer of both sitcom legends, I must say that the collaboration between George Lopez and Danielle Fishel is nothing short of magical. Their camaraderie, shared passion for vintage tees, and mutual respect for each other’s craft have made “Lopez vs. Lopez” a standout in my Friday night lineup.

The Lopez vs. Lopez series, which made a comeback on NBC’s 2024 schedule to deliver laughs every Friday night, is set to return for more in the 2025 lineup. In the upcoming TV schedule, a Christmas-themed episode of this classic sitcom awaits viewers, bringing a delightful holiday spirit. This reminder of the festive season made me recall some touching words from Danielle Fishel, an actress and director from Boy Meets World and Lopez vs. Lopez, who has worked with the sitcom legend. When I chatted with her, she happily shared what she cherished most about collaborating on this series.

Danielle Fishel took on the role of director for multiple episodes during the third season of Lopez vs. Lopez, including an episode featuring Roastmaster General Jeff Ross and the upcoming episode prior to a short hiatus. You can catch all Season 3 episodes available so far with a Peacock subscription. I had a chat with her in the fall regarding her collaboration with George Lopez, and she shared her favorite aspects of the project:

Remarkable sitcom icon, humor maestro, and genuinely amazing individual – that’s George for you! I wasn’t sure what connections we might share, but from the get-go, I was struck by his exceptional ability to focus on the people he interacts with. What I admire most about him is how attentive he is. He even noticed my penchant for vintage tees and made it a daily conversation starter. ‘Which vintage t-shirt are you sporting today?’ became our little game, and we’d chat about it. If the design featured a band, George would share his own experiences with that group.

Danielle Fishel’s appreciation for George Lopez might not have been connected to the holidays, but reflecting on her words now, as we approach the Christmas episode of Lopez vs. Lopez, makes me feel all warm and festive inside. She is indeed cherished in the world of sitcoms, with fans of Boy Meets World swiftly expressing affection and encouragement when she disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis. The actress, director, and podcaster further added:

In the process of familiarizing myself with him on a personal level, as well as his roles as an actor and executive producer, I must say he is incredibly intelligent, meticulous, and deeply invested in the quality of his work. His dedication to the show, the characters like Mayan, and their relationships is evident both on-screen and off. It’s truly captivating each week to witness this genuine dynamic unfold, a reflection of the care he puts into his craft.

In the show titled “Lopez vs. Lopez“, both George Lopez and his real-life daughter Mayan are cast, and it’s no wonder that Danielle Fishel has showered it with high praise. Remarkable comedy veterans like Vicki Lawrence and Stephen Tobolowsky share their unexpected experiences working alongside him. I can attest to the fact that he had a profoundly considerate reaction when discussing his comedic journey during an interview with TopMob, right next to Mayan on a red carpet. Fishel further discusses George Lopez’s charisma as a leading man in front of a live audience.

Upon emerging, it’s evident he possesses a large-than-life character. He’s quick with humor. Instantly, he puts everyone at their comfort zone. Quite remarkably, he’s truly outstanding.

In simpler terms, Danielle Fishel rejoined the cast of Lopez vs. Lopez in Season 3, having previously directed an episode each in Seasons 1 and 2. She expressed her gratitude towards showrunner Debby Wolfe and stars/executive producers George and Mayan Lopez for providing her with the opportunity to direct for network television. Upon learning that the NBC sitcom would be making a comeback, she shared an emotional response to this exciting news.

When the news about Season 3 broke and I received a call asking me to act in five episodes, I couldn’t help but shed tears. [laughs] I instantly messaged Debby, George, and Mayan, expressing my enthusiasm for spending several weeks with them again since they have grown very close to me, almost like family.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a new episode of Lopez vs. Lopez this coming Friday, November 29. It’s typical for shows airing on Friday nights to take a break after Thanksgiving. The Christmas episode, titled “Lopez vs. Santa,” will air on Friday, December 6 at 9:45 p.m. ET instead. In the meantime, you can catch up on the first six episodes of Season 3 on Peacock or stream the first two seasons with a Netflix subscription.
