Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

As someone who grew up watching these shows, I must admit that I found it fascinating how some of these characters, despite their charming personalities, seemed to get away with causing trouble more often than not.

Occasionally, it’s the child characters in a television comedy that make the series truly captivating. Yet, there are numerous other sitcom offspring who could potentially cause you to lose interest… or even discourage parenthood.

We acknowledge it required considerable effort to scrutinize the most iconic sitcoms and identify characters deserving of the title “terribly mischievous,” and you may find our selections somewhat contentious. However, please be patient as we reminisce about the sitcom children who could definitely use a time-out.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Louis Stevens (Even Stevens)

Shia LaBeouf gained fame by playing Louis Stevens, a key character in the popular Disney Channel original comedy series “Even Stevens“. Despite being a seventh grader with good intentions, Louis is often ostracized within his family because of his poor responsibility and penchant for pulling elaborate, albeit childish pranks.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Zack Morris (Saved By The Bell)

Among the primary characters of “Saved By the Bell”, it’s Zack Morris who appears to be the one you might find yourself relating to, with his self-assured attitude and time-stopping abilities. However, a series titled “Zack Morris is Trash” has effectively demonstrated to us, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar himself, that Zack’s character is problematic, highlighting his arrogant disregard and self-centered desires.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Dennis Mitchell (Dennis The Menace)

As a devoted admirer, I can tell you that all the essential details about Dennis Mitchell (Jay North) are encapsulated in the title of his ’50s and ’60s sitcom, inspired by the comic strip, “Dennis the Menace.” It’s important to note that Dennis, being George Wilson’s young neighbor, isn’t intentionally causing mischief but has a knack for disregarding rules, which unfortunately leads to quite a few incidents that tend to impact others.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Eddie Haskell (Leave It To Beaver)

In the show Leave It to Beaver, the two main characters, Jerry Mathers as Beaver and Tony Dow as his brother Wally, often found themselves in various scrapes. However, their actions were generally quite virtuous when compared to Eddie Haskell, played by Ken Osmond. Eddie would feign politeness to conceal his mischievous intentions, but Mrs. Cleaver, portrayed by Barbara Billingsley, was always able to perceive his true nature.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Zack Martin (The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody)

For a number of years, both Cole and Dylan Sprouse took turns portraying the same character (for instance, Julian in “Big Daddy”). However, in Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody”, they each got to play separate halves of the title sibling pair. Cole, who later joined the cast of “Riverdale”, played the wiser and more mature twin, Cody. On the other hand, Dylan was cast as the self-absorbed and rule-breaking Zack, who often orchestrated the troubles they encountered.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Eric Cartman (South Park)

In many over-the-top South Park episodes, it’s usually Eric Cartman who stirs up the chaos. His mouthy antics and actions mirror a personality that’s downright hateful, stretching far beyond typical kid mischief. If only he could tone down his despicable behavior, maybe people would take his “authoritah” more seriously.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Bam-Bam (The Flintstones)

We find both children from Hanna-Barbera’s “The Flintstones” incredibly adorable, but we’d prefer to be Fred and Wilma, raising Pebbles instead. We don’t envy Barney and Betty for giving Bam-Bam his signature club initially and not taking it away more often when they should have.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Reese (Malcolm In The Middle)

In the cast of “Malcolm in the Middle,” all the boys, including Malcolm, portrayed by Frankie Muniz, showed instances of disrespectfulness at times, but none compared to Reese. Justin Berfield’s character appeared to thrive on defying authority, though he likely didn’t comprehend the meaning of that term.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Megan Parker (Drake & Josh)

In the Nickelodeon show Drake & Josh, character Josh Nichols (played by Josh Peck) acquired not only a stepbrother Drake Parker (portrayed by Drake Bell), but also a stepsister Megan (Miranda Cosgrove). Instead of two playmates, they became her targets for mischief. However, the pranks she pulled were far from innocent and adorable, often reaching dangerous levels that seemed to put lives at risk.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Bart Simpson (The Simpsons)

Let’s kick off with Bart Simpson, the mischievous character who sets the tone for every episode of The Simpsons by scribbling a new misdeed on the school chalkboard during detention. To illustrate one of his numerous pranks that didn’t turn out so great, consider the time he gave Homer (Dan Castellaneta) a Duff beer can to shake, which ended up shaking so violently that it blew the roof off their house.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Darlene Conner (Roseanne)

In the early years of “Roseanne,” Darlene Conner, portrayed by Sara Gilbert, was known for her quick wit and persistent laziness. It’s worth noting that she bore a striking resemblance to her mother, Roseanne Barr’s character, when you consider their similarities.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Kelly Bundy (Married… With Children)

The main issue with Kelly Bundy, the eldest child in the popular sitcom Married… with Children, portrayed by Christina Applegate, stems from her overt self-centeredness and chronic forgetfulness. Regarding any misdeeds in her life, one can’t help but feel empathy given her upbringing circumstances.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Mateo Villanueva (Jane The Virgin)

Mateo Villanueva (played by Elias Janssen) hails from modest origins, born to Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) following an unintended artificial insemination incident. Some devoted viewers of Jane the Virgin, though, often perceive Mateo as a somewhat spoiled child for much of his screen time.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Axl Heck (The Middle)

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that it’s not usually the oldest sibling from a sitcom family who causes the most chaos. However, when it comes to the Hecks, their eldest son, Axl (Charlie McDermott), certainly takes the cake. His behavior towards his younger sister Sue (who almost had her own spin-off in The Middle, starring Eden Sher) is downright disrespectful and rude, a trait that seems to pop up more often than not.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Ben Gellar (Friends)

In a previous role, a young Cole Sprouse portrayed Ross Gellar’s son Ben on Friends. This character was known for playing tricks, some of which were not just gross but potentially harmful, on his father, mother Carol, and stepmother Susan. However, it was Rachel who provided ideas for some of these pranks, so perhaps she should bear some responsibility for the mischief.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Pearl Krabs (SpongeBob SquarePants)

It seems that Mr. Krabs’ (Clancy Brown, delivering a standout performance) self-centered and high-maintenance character traits seem to have had an impact on his likely adoptive daughter, Pearl (Lori Alan). This young whale exhibits explosive temper tantrums over minor setbacks, and due to her large size, these outbursts frequently result in destruction.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

London Tipton (The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody)

Prior to gaining recognition for her relationship with Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song had already made a name for herself as a Disney Channel star. She captivated audiences as London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, a role that perfectly encapsulated the essence of London – a wealthy, somewhat dim-witted teen heiress to a hotel empire. The quintessence of her character was succinctly expressed in her signature phrase: “Yay me!”

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Brad Taylor (Home Improvement)

As a devoted fan of “Home Improvement,” I’d have to say that among the lovable characters, Brad, the eldest son, stood out as the one who sometimes crossed the line. Over the years, his character, played by Zachary Ty Bryan, was known for his mischief towards his younger brother Mark, often with Randy, the middle child, lending a hand.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Miley Stewart (Hannah Montana)

Miley Stewart, portrayed by Miley Cyrus in the popular Disney Channel comedy, might have been the lead character, but it seemed like the fame and authority she garnered as a pop music star may have inflated her ego. This is suggested by her frequently disrespectful attitude towards her own family members and sometimes strangers. Interestingly, this troublesome behavior served as the main theme in the 2009 movie “Hannah Montana: The Movie”.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Candace Flynn (Phineas And Ferb)

Ashley Tisdale’s character, Candace Flynn, could say that her brother Phineas (Vincent Martella) and stepbrother Ferb (Thomas Sangster), from the show “Phineas and Ferb”, were actually the troublemakers in their family, but fans of the series would disagree. Instead, they made each summer memorable with their creative projects. Candace often tried to spoil their fun, when she should have just relaxed and enjoyed it instead.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Beans (Even Stevens)

In Disney’s show Even Stevens, there was another young character besides Shia LaBeouf’s Louis who was quite mischievous. This was Bernard Aranguren, affectionately known as “Beans.” Portrayed by Steven Anthony Lawrence, this bacon-loving troublemaker had a knack for causing chaos, but he could also be a loyal friend. However, his attachment to the Stevens family sometimes appeared as shameless freeloading.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Bud Bundy (Married… With Children)

David Faustino’s character on the provocative sitcom “Married… with Children” was noticeably more intelligent compared to his siblings and parents, namely Al (Ed O’Neill) and Peg (Katey Segal). If he could channel that intellect into worthwhile pursuits rather than questionable plans or personal desires, we might find ourselves admiring him.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Kenan Rockmore (Kenan & Kel)

Upon a recent viewing of Kenan & Kel, we realized something interesting: while hapless and forgetful Kel (played by Kel Mitchell) is frequently accused of causing the mishaps experienced by him and Kenan (performed by Kenan Thompson), it’s actually not his fault. In reality, Kenan is the real culprit, as he seems to be addicted to orchestrating wild schemes that inevitably end in disaster for himself.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Trina Vega (Victorious)

On the Nickelodeon show Victorious, Victoria Justice portrays Tori Vega, a character who gains admission into a performing arts school after spending years in the shadow of her older sister Trina (played by Daniella Monet). Despite this, Trina may not truly deserve the honor due to her lack of humility and excessive ignorance about her own flaws. If only she were more modest and aware of her shortcomings, she might not rely on her belief that she is more attractive and talented than everyone else as a justification for her repeated insults.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Cory Baxter (That’s So Raven)

In the debut episode of Disney’s show “That’s So Raven“, the character Raven-Symoné, who has psychic abilities, labels her younger brother as a skilled trickster and user of psychological manipulations. It was clear that Cory (Kyle Massey) was quite smart for his age, however, he often used his intelligence to concoct lies and schemes to make things easier for himself and attempt to accumulate wealth.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Liv Rooney (Liv And Maddie)

One of the best TV shows for Dove Cameron fans to watch is her breakthrough Disney Channel series in which she plays both titular roles from Liv and Maddie. It is no wonder why Cameron earned a Daytime Emmy for her dual performances for the way she seamlessly differentiates the two, with Liv Rooney being the polar opposite of her smarter and far more selfless twin sister.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Pim Diffy (Phil Of The Future)

On Disney Channel’s “Phil of the Future”, teenager Phil Diffy (Raviv Ullman) and his family struggle to conceal their 22nd-century origins while stuck in the mid-2000s. It’s usually Phil’s younger sister, Pim (Amy Bruckner), who comes closest to revealing secrets and causing trouble. But she’s not just a cute nuisance; she harbors genuine aspirations for global conquest.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Arnold Jackson (Diff’rent Strokes)

In a more casual and friendly tone: Gary Coleman, who played Arnold on Diff’rent Strokes, was incredibly popular among child stars of his era due to his endearing performances. Despite his character being quite mouthy, he somehow managed to avoid getting into trouble more often than not.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Kate Sanders (Lizzie McGuire)

In Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire, there were instances suggesting a friendship between Lizzie (Hilary Duff), Miranda (Lalaine), Gordo (Adam Lamberg) and Kate Sanders (Ashlie Brillault), which seems surprising given Kate’s habit of bullying the group. This idea is difficult for both the characters and viewers to accept, as Kate was known for her rude behavior towards them.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Vanessa Thomkins (The Bernie Mac Show)

On “The Bernie Mac Show,” Vanessa Thomkins (Camille Winbush) often challenged and undercut her namesake uncle’s parenting efforts. This behavior, however, can be seen as a response to her past struggles with abandonment and difficult home circumstances prior to being adopted by Bernie and Wanda.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Sam Puckett (iCarly)

It’s often been our impression that the friendship between Janette McCurdy’s character Sam Puckett from iCarly and Ariana Grande’s Cat Valentine from Victorious seemed incredibly unlikely, especially when they shared a Nickelodeon sitcom together. However, upon reflection, it can be challenging to accept that someone as considerate and thoughtful as Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) would form such a close bond with a character like Sam who openly embraces bullying behavior.

Sitcom Kids Who Were Horribly Misbehaved

Caillou (Caillou)

To clarify, the animated version of the popular Canadian children’s book series isn’t a typical sitcom. Interestingly, the main character Caillou, who is only four years old, was so grumpy that he actually annoyed viewers within the age group PBS Kids primarily aims to entertain.
