As a seasoned fashion enthusiast with a penchant for streetwear and British culture, I must say that Skepta’s latest MAINS show at London Fashion Week was nothing short of spectacular! The energy was electrifying, much like the vibe I get from his music.
Rapper Skepta from Boy Better Know recently closed out London Fashion Week’s stage, orchestrating his second fashion show for MAINS. The collection was jointly designed by Mikey Pearce (chief designer) and Johnson Orchid (graphic designer), with Skepta playing an active role throughout the process. Alongside notable UK artists like Central Cee, Gabriel Moses, and Mahalia, Skepta signaled the opening of MAINS University in central London.
MAINS returned to school with an expansive collegiate collection held at 80 Vincent Square, lining the venue’s dome-shaped structure with sticker-stamped lockers and university flags. In true Skepta fashion, the collection was kept limited, with 27 men’s and womenswear looks balanced on unisex lines. The British artist teased the collection on social media with long-haired wigs, pocketed handbags, and MAINS-branded neckties, hinting at what was to come with a furry Kickers footwear collaboration.
The bustling venue sparked to life as models strutted swiftly across the concrete floor, launching the show with a vibrant double-breasted suit adorned with essential school items. Skepta’s distinctive oversized fashion was blazing brightly with sheer shirts and leather wrestling shorts, while MAINS university insignias resembled scholastic merchandise under extravagant lapels on jackets and pleated culottes. Embroidered bomber jackets and sweater vests featuring American flags filled wardrobes, bolstered by muscular characters on torn T-shirts. Leopard and camouflage patterns ran throughout the collection, appearing on slim neckties, pocket squares, and headgear, adding color to the range with school bags, leather gloves, and floral wreath-printed caps. Lastly, Skepta unveiled his MAINS x Kickers collaboration, showcasing classic leather boots with yellow gum soles in shades of red, black, and brown.
