Sky Unveils First Look at Matt Smith in Adaptation of Nick Cave Novel ‘The Death of Bunny Munro’

As a voracious reader and ardent fan of Nick Cave, I can hardly contain my excitement for Sky’s upcoming limited series, “The Death of Bunny Munro.” With Matt Smith, a chameleonic actor who has captivated me as both The Doctor and Daemon Targaryen, taking on the titular role, this adaptation promises to be nothing short of riveting.

Sky recently revealed an initial glimpse of Matt Smith in the upcoming six-episode miniseries titled “The Death of Bunny Munro“.

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that this captivating series is crafted by BAFTA-winning director Peter Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and directed by the talented Isabella Eklöf, BAFTA nominee known for her work in Industry and Holiday. The story is adapted from Nick Cave’s second novel, and it’s a joint production of Clerkenwell Films and Sky Studios. Not only that, but the legendary musician himself serves as an executive producer, adding an extra layer of anticipation to this promising project!

Actor Smith, known for his roles in “Doctor Who” and “House of the Dragon,” was unveiled shirtless with a cigarette in a first glance image on Monday. He assumes the leading character. In another part of the photograph is debutant Rafael Mathé, portraying Bunny Junior.

After the tragic suicide of his wife Libby, Bunny Munro – a man known for his sex addiction, peddling beauty products from door to door and self-proclaimed ladies’ man – is left with a young son and a vague understanding of fatherhood.

Accompanied by nine-year-old Bunny Junior, they set off on a grand, progressively chaotic journey through southern England. As they grapple with their sorrow, each deals with it in their own unique manner.

First released in 2009, this novel marks Cave’s second work following “And the Ass Saw the Angel” from 1989. Notably, Cave gained recognition primarily for his role as the lead vocalist of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds band.

The Death of Bunny Munro will air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service Now in 2025.
