SlimeClimb takes you straight to the top in a subterranean world of action platforming

  • SlimeClimb sees you taking on the dense dungeons and caverns of Subterra
  • Leap, bounce and jump to avoid obstacles and take on deadly bosses
  • This solo-developed effort is currently in open beta, with Testflight coming to iOS

Once upon consoles, simple platformers held the throne, but they’ve seemingly taken a backseat among big-budget developers in recent times. However, in the independent game scene, it continues to flourish as an exciting genre. One standout title that caught my eye recently is SlimeClimb, a solo-developed action platformer that carries echoes of Terraria.

In SlimeClimb, a game that operates on a completely free-to-play basis, you find yourself in the role of a modest slime, propelling yourself upward through the subterranean realm of Subterra. Navigate through obstacles and adversaries during your journey, but beware! It’s not just sawblades and flames that demand your vigilance. Formidable boss monsters are also determined to thwart your climb to the top.

From my perspective, it’s quite evident that SlimeClimb draws inspiration from the classic indie game Super Meatboy. However, this isn’t a negative observation at all. Instead, SlimeClimb appears to have been specifically designed for mobile devices, showcasing level designs in portrait mode. For an independent project, the level of polish it boasts is quite remarkable.

He slimed me

In simple terms, SlimeClimb features a popular addition found in many indie games these days – a level creator mode. This allows players to design their own levels and share them with others. Although this isn’t entirely new, it’s a great feature that could significantly increase the lifespan of SlimeClimb if it becomes popular.

Give it a go with SlimeClimb during its open beta phase on Google Play, or register for the iOS edition via Testflight if you’d prefer!
