Together, they stumble upon the Void – a desolate wasteland marking the end of time, governed by the malevolent Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). And let me tell you, this place isn’t just home to our anti-heroes; it also houses forgotten Marvel characters from the 20th Century Fox universe. They’re yearning for redemption and closure – a chance to make things right. So buckle up, my friends, as we delve into the captivating details of this thrilling adventure, set to the rhythm of *NSYNC’s timeless tunes!
Most of the Wolverines are inspired by the comics
In the film’s beginning, a montage is shown with Deadpool searching for a living Wolverine from various multiverse realms to assist him. Unfortunately, many Logans refuse his request for aid. However, there are some notable Wolverines, which Marvel enthusiasts will recognize as homages to distinct comic book versions – including one portrayed by Henry Cavill.
When Deadpool initially encounters a Wolverine version, he finds this character to be unusually small, reflecting the real-life Wolverine in comics being approximately 5 feet, 3 inches tall. Though this portrayal might fall short of the mark, it’s truer to the source material than the movie depiction of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, who doesn’t match the comic’s height.
In addition, Old Man Logan carries a hidden shotgun and guns down Deadpool, while the Wolverine from the 1980s wears his brown and tan costume during battles against the Hulk. Another Wolverine sports ’90s-style glam rock hair. Furthermore, there’s a crucified variant reminiscent of “Uncanny X-Men #251,” as well as Patch, Wolverine’s gambling persona donning a white tux and eyepatch. However, Deadpool selects none of these champions; instead, he chooses the one who betrayed him and has a penchant for heavy drinking.
Juggernaut’s power-dampening helmet is from the comics

Subsequently, she invades Wolverine’s mind using her claws as a means of entry, causing him significant discomfort. However, this distraction gives Deadpool the opportunity to regain consciousness and seize the moment by placing the helmet on Cassandra’s head before X-23 throws it up to him.
The helmet is Juggernaut’s, but it brings to mind the helmet from “The Uncanny Avengers: Red Skull.” In that storyline, Deadpool lets Rogue overpower him so she can place the helmet on her head. This helmet suppresses Red Skull’s abilities, which he had stolen from Charles Xavier. As a result, Rogue gains control of her mind and is able to defeat Red Skull as long as she continues to wear the helmet. In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” there is a variation where Cassandra wears the helmet instead – this prevents her from using her powers to harm others, but it maintains its primary purpose.
Deadpool’s co-creator gets a namecheck

Having grown up reading X-Force and Youngblood comics, I can attest to the iconic status of these characters in the world of comic books.
A bus ad features a picture of Stan Lee
As I play the game, Deadpool and Wolverine engage in an intense battle against the Deadpool variants. Suddenly, the fight spills onto a city bus, making it an unexpected stage for the action. For those of us keeping a sharp eye, a Stanley Steamer laundry service ad on the side of the bus catches our attention. And wouldn’t you know it? That’s Stan Lee’s face gracing that very ad, serving as a delightful cameo in the game.
As a longtime fan of Marvel Comics and movies, I have always appreciated the unique cameos that Stan Lee brought to the big screen. His appearances added a sense of authenticity and connection to the source material for me. So it’s heartwarming to see how Marvel Studios has continued this tradition in honor of Stan Lee, even after his passing in 2018.
One of the Deadpools is wearing a Wrexham United logo
In their fight against Cassandra to save the timelines, Wade and Logan encounter over a hundred unique Deadpool versions. Some of these include Cowboy Deadpool, Headpool, and Lady Deadpool. However, one Deadpool stands out as unrelated to the comics. This Deadpool dons a Wrexham United jersey on his suit.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney co-own Wrexham United soccer team, which has experienced remarkable success since their takeover. They’ve been promoted to a higher league not once, but twice in just two years. In this film, Reynolds subtly pays tribute to his beloved team, making it an endearing moment despite his character and Deadpool ultimately bringing down Wrexham Pool with the other Deadpools later on.
X-23 gets shady before the big fight
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” there are some impressive scenes of heroes getting ready to fight. Hugh Jackman looks cool in the iconic yellow hood, but the new generation of Weapon X might even surpass that with their sunglasses on before a battle. Among the many superheroes appearing, one noteworthy moment is when Laura (Dafne Keen), also known as X-23, puts on sunglasses just before her claws emerge.
In the desolate landscape filled with discarded items, a pair of pink floral sunglasses could be an unexpected addition to the clutter for some. For devoted followers of Wolverine’s saga, these glasses hold significance as they were worn by X-23 in her previous encounter with Logan, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, in “Logan.” Amidst the abundance of references in this film, this detail is not insignificant; it adds depth to Keen’s character amidst the chaos of weapons and profanities. Although we don’t yet know if this X-23 is the same one from the previous movie, the attention given to her character underscores her importance in the 24-year-old X-Men franchise. This thoughtful touch could pave the way for more of Keen’s appearances if X-23 makes a comeback in future installments. Ultimately, it’s all about building and maintaining a brand.
Deadpool & Wolverine are The Greatest Showmen
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the long-awaited instant (wow). Hidden within the unyielding structure of this film, there exists a scene that cannot be missed (woah, let’s calm down). In the midst of their brutal fight inside a Honda, our two fierce opponents clash, leaving Logan cornered near the car radio. Unexpectedly, during this struggle, a fragment of “The Greatest Showman,” the opening tune from Jackman’s cherished musical of the same title, plays. Interestingly, that production also featured MCU veteran Zendaya, which could leave Wade astonished if he ever encounters MJ.
The well-known figure in the comic book movie scene, who has long been associated with Wolverine, isn’t unexpectedly poking fun at himself in areas beyond that character. This is yet another instance where you might need to pay close attention to keep up. Although it would have been amusing if Deadpool had sung “This Is Me” to a grumpy Logan, not everything can be perfect. Instead, we’ll just enjoy two famous comic book characters attempting to fight each other to the rhythm of “Better Shape Up.” We never imagined writing that sentence.
A tour of the Void is a trip through Marvel movie history
The First Avenger,” Marc Spector’s commandeered cupcake truck in “Moon Knight,” and the Milano, the Guardians of the Galaxy’s former spacecraft. The Fantasticar, although not fitting the traditional design, can be seen hovering around with Cassandra Nova’s henchmen aboard.
Some Marvel artifacts have immense size. For instance, a dilapidated Ant-Man is used as a hideout, and there’s a worn-down Chitauri Leviathan on the beach. Additionally, there might be a SHIELD Helicarrier present, depending on whether it’s from the Deadpool film or the MCU. On the X-Men side, a significant portion of the Golden Gate Bridge is located in the Void, as seen floating in the air during “X-Men: The Last Stand,” thanks to Magneto’s powers played by Ian McKellen. Amongst this comic book spectacle, there’s a tribute from one buddy movie to another – a charred car from “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” featuring Reynolds’ idol, the late comedy legend John Candy.
A Happy tour of the office
In an impressive dance routine and a shocking turn of events, the “Deadpool & Wolverine” storyline momentarily shifts focus to Wade in Stark Industries, where he attempts to win over the boss, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), who is both the top executive and unofficial chauffeur. Wade yearns to join the Avengers but is rejected by Hogan, who emphasizes that having a cause to fight for is crucial, not just seeking recognition. Although this message may take time to register, viewers might be engrossed in identifying significant items scattered around the room instead.
The majority of the displayed items can be connected to Stark. As we follow the franchise, we come across Pepper’s heartfelt gift to Tony, revealing his compassionate side, and the iconic MK II silver helmet sitting next to Wade’s prospective employer. On Wade’s desk, there is a toy helmet worn by young Peter Parker in “Iron Man 2,” showcasing his early hero aspirations. Additionally, there’s a photograph of the late Iron Man and Tom Holland portraying Peter Parker.
We shouldn’t overlook Cap’s collectibles as well. Along with the silver helmet, Happy owns a stack of Captain America trading cards similar to those tainted with Agent Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) blood in “The Avengers.” In the scene where both characters appear together, an early design of Steve’s shield is visible on the cabinet.
Nova has a Strange selection of items
In the trailer, we saw Wade and Logan jump through a portal, indicating that magical artifacts related to the mystic arts would be featured in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” These items were later discovered to belong to Cassandra Nova. The escape route was opened by a sling ring worn by Xavier’s unstable twin sister, who is capable of wearing such powerful magic objects. However, based on the significant piece of clothing displayed in Nova’s throne room, it appears she didn’t defeat Wong (Benedict Wong), but rather another version of Strange.
In the background of this dismal place, you can catch a peek of the Cloak of Levitation, whichStephen Strange (portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch) has donned since his introduction in 2016. This revelation indicates that “the sorcerer” she once vanquished during her time in the Void was indeed the one with a beard as impressive as Tony Stark’s. The silver lining is that, due to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” we now understand that there are numerous alternate Stephen’s in existence and that our preferred one did not become Nova.
There are multiple references to actors’ divorces
In a casual and engaging manner: Deadpool is famous for his sharp-tongued wit which isn’t always politically correct. He doesn’t shy away from poking fun at Wolverine in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and he even pokes fun at Disney, his latest boss. Jesting at a large corporation is one thing, but there are a few jokes in the film that might be more painful for certain actors, as they touch on their real-life divorces.
At some point in the story, Deadpool playfully jabs at Wolverine, saying “He’s not usually one for a shirt, but he’s put on a few pounds since his divorce.” This comment alludes to Hugh Jackman’s real-life divorce from Deborra-lee Jackman, which became public knowledge in September 2023. The couple had been married for 27 years, making it an impressive feat for Jackman to be so relaxed about the joke given that the divorce was still fresh in people’s minds. However, as we later discover in the film when Wolverine does take off his shirt, it’s clear that Jackman hasn’t let himself go at all.
In a future Marvel scene, Deadpool gathers with other damaged multiverse characters, including Elektra (previously portrayed by Jennifer Garner). During their conversation, the topic turns to Daredevil, who was previously acted by Ben Affleck in “Daredevil” (2003), and is now deceased. Deadpool expresses his sympathies, but Elektra appears unphased, suggesting there was never any lingering affection between them.
Bad blood gets put to rest between Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes
Jennifer Garner’s divorce isn’t the only off-screen drama that “Deadpool & Wolverine” explores concerning celebrity gossip. In the “Deadpool & Wolverine” trailer, Lady Deadpool made an appearance and left fans in no doubt – that was Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ wife in real life under the mask. Although she keeps her identity hidden throughout the film, Lively delivers a few lines as Lady Deadpool. Some viewers might have anticipated this twist based on a playful hint dropped earlier in the series.

Prior to their encounter with the Deadpool Corps, Wade Wilson delivers an eloquent speech regarding the MCU’s attempt at Multiverse storytelling, stating that it hasn’t been successful and comparing it unfavorably to “The Wizard of Oz,” which masterfully handled Multiverse concepts. This might appear as a casual reference, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Arc is rich with “Wizard of Oz” allusions.
As a gamer, I’ve been excitedly waiting for the latest Marvel Studios releases, and the trailers have not disappointed! In the Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania trailer, Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” plays, reminding me of Dorothy’s journey in The Wizard of Oz. It’s an intriguing allusion that leaves me wondering what lies beyond the next adventure.

Luckily, Wolverine and Deadpool make it through in the finale, meaning they won’t skip a beat in their adventures. In contrast, the outcome in “Armageddon” was decidedly less optimistic.
