Snapchat Adds 37M Active Users, Plans 2025 Launch for Revamped “Simple” App

As a seasoned gamer and social media enthusiast with over a decade of digital interaction under my belt, I can’t help but feel intrigued by Snap Inc.’s latest move. The new “Simple Snapchat” app promises to streamline content discovery, which is music to my ears. After all, who doesn’t love a good dose of simplification in this complex digital world?

In the third quarter, Snap Inc. reported a significant increase of 37 million daily active users on its Snapchat app, bringing the total to 443 million. Additionally, they noted a 25% jump in time spent viewing content compared to the same period last year.

The income for the period was approximately 1.37 billion dollars, marking a 15% increase compared to the same time last year. At the same time, the company reported a net loss of 153 million dollars, which is a substantial improvement as it was over 368 million dollars in the red during the corresponding period last year.

Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s achievements this quarter. They have successfully increased the community size, boosted user interaction, and enhanced financial results,” he said. “Investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) are fueling innovative and creative experiences for our users, thereby promoting advancement within our advertising platform. These investments are laying a solid foundation for our future growth.

At a critical juncture, Snap is experiencing an increase in active users, with plans to debut its streamlined Snapchat app as early as the first quarter of 2025. The company currently has around 10 million testers for this new version, and they anticipate ongoing testing and refinement before a full-scale release.

The new application aims to improve the process of finding content by merging features from Snap and Snapchat Spotlight into a single video stream, thus integrating Snap content with its messaging capabilities.

As a dedicated Snapchat user, I’m thrilled to share that the company’s latest tests have yielded promising results. These tests indicate higher content engagement among less active users, which could significantly contribute to advertiser’s impression growth and extended reach. I’m excited about this development!

However, it’s important to note that while the company is optimistic, the user engagement statistics on iOS devices are less favorable compared to Android devices. Furthermore, a smooth transition to the new app might not be immediate, as there could be some turbulence during the migration process.

Although we anticipate that growth in user interaction and the need for the updated ad locations will increase gradually over time, there’s a chance that the changes related to the revamped Snapchat could take effect instantly as users switch to the new interface. This rapid change might cause temporary disruption in the short term,” the letter stated.

In the end, the company expects that the newly developed app will boost user interaction and consequently increase ad earnings.

Jim Shepherd, Snapchat’s global creator and content partnerships director, explained to The Hollywood Reporter last month that by streamlining the app’s functionalities, we are essentially emphasizing what people primarily do on their phones – messaging, taking photos, and consuming content. These three key aspects are prominently featured in our new design, and Snapchat believes that these actions complement each other well.
