As a long-time gaming enthusiast who’s seen more than a few political twists and turns in my time, I can’t help but feel a mix of amusement and apprehension as I watch Saturday Night Live (SNL) bend over backward to curry favor with the newly re-elected Donald Trump. It’s like watching a game where the rules keep changing mid-match.
In a bid to win over Donald Trump following his victory against Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election, the cast of Saturday Night Live began their post-election show with an attempt to please him.
The segment initiated, featuring actors Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernández, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Colin Jost addressing the camera head-on.
On Tuesday, U.S. citizens cast their votes and chose Donald Trump to become the upcoming president of the USA,” Yang remarks, while Nwodim adds, “For numerous individuals, such as many viewers tuned in to this program currently, the outcome was startling and downright terrifying.
According to Gardner and Thompson, Donald Trump, who attempted to illegitimately reverse the outcomes of the previous election, has been reinstated with a landslide victory. This is the same Donald Trump who publicly advocated for retribution against his political adversaries.
Yang and Nwodim further explain, “Now, due to the Supreme Court’s decision, there are no safeguards in place, nothing to shield those courageous enough to challenge him.
Afterward, they had a special message for the previous president. “So, let us express this on behalf of Saturday Night Live,” Thompson states, followed by Yang’s words, “We’ve stood by your side through it all.” This implies that they have remained steadfast in their support for him, even when others may have questioned his actions.
Bill Burr returns to host the sketch comedy shows for the third time, with musical guest Mk.gee!
