SNL Vet Rob Schneider Discusses 50-Year Friendship With Adam Sandler

As a movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Hollywood friendships, I must say that the bond between Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler is truly exceptional. Having grown up watching their comedic collaborations, it’s heartwarming to see their friendship transcend both on and off-screen for nearly five decades. It’s not every day you hear about friendships like this, where one person checks in every week for 30 years, even calling in the middle of the night!

Over almost five decades, the friendship between Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler has remained unwavering. These longtime partners in comedy and close friends have a connection that has withstood challenges, both during film productions and off-set. Although it’s been some time since they last displayed their on-screen camaraderie (their latest joint project was 2020’s “Hubie’s Halloween”), the fact that Sandler regularly checks in on Schneider each week demonstrates that their friendship continues to thrive.

Schneider recently attended the New York City premiere of Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy special, Adam Sandler: Love You, to lend his support. During the event, Schneider spoke with People magazine and revealed a heartwarming detail about their friendship, saying that Sandler has been calling Schneider every week to check up on him for the past 30 years.

“For the past three decades, there hasn’t been a single week that he didn’t reach out to me, no matter where I was in the world. This consistency is not just true; it extends even to late-night phone calls. I’ve received calls from him while he was in Italy and other far-off places, asking about what I’m doing at odd hours. Once, it was two in the morning, and he called me saying, ‘What are you up to?’ To which I responded, ‘It’s the middle of the night.’ He replied, ‘Get up. I need to talk to you. How are you holding up?'”

My professional journey with a partner started back in 1998 when we both appeared in “The Waterboy,” directed by Frank Coraci. In this movie, I had an impactful cameo as Townie, a character that returned for two more films. Since then, we’ve shared the screen in numerous films such as “Big Daddy,” “50 First Dates,” “Grown Ups,” “The Ridiculous 6,” and “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.” Our exceptional camaraderie and comic timing have made us a cherished duo among fans.

At present, Adam Sandler is busy with the production of “Happy Gilmore 2,” and fans are curious to know if his long-time friend and co-star Rob Schneider will be part of this project. The original film from 1996 has since gained a cult following, but details regarding the sequel remain scarce for now. When asked about potentially reprising his role, Schneider hinted, “We’ll have to wait and see.”

Sandler’s collaboration with Netflix has been incredibly fruitful, a sentiment shared by Schneider who is also grateful for the diverse roles and genres he’s experienced in recent projects. He feels privileged to have accompanied Sandler on this journey, offering support from the sideline and wishing him continued success. When asked about his feelings towards Sandler, Schneider told People magazine that he simply can’t find the right words except to express his love for him and his desire for his good health, happiness, and continued success.

“For over five decades, we’ve shared the bond of friendship. This fellow is extraordinary, and it’s amazing that he involves me in all his endeavors. It’s truly beautiful. His work in Hustle and Uncut Gems was impressive, and now he’s collaborating with incredibly talented individuals… He’s got a new movie coming up alongside George Clooney for Netflix. It’s been an exceptional journey for him, and a major coup for Netflix to secure the biggest star in the world for their platform.”

The relationship between Schneider and Sandler goes beyond their professional lives; it’s filled with warmth and longevity. They are devoted friends who take pride in each other’s successes. As Sandler continues his current winning streak, Schneider expressed his admiration by saying, “He’s still just at the beginning.
