If at first, you don’t succeed …
As a movie lover, I can’t help but express my disappointment over Disney’s “Snow White” that has surprisingly become this year’s box office flop just a few weeks into its release. The film’s initial theater count shrank down to only a handful last week before it made its Video on Demand debut on May 13th.

End of story. Not so fast.
Over the weekend, Disney chose to bring back the movie across over a thousand theaters, with the aim of capitalizing on the celebrations for Mother’s Day.
Not quite.
Over the weekend, “Snow White” earned approximately $335,000, placing it at the 13th spot among other films. However, its performance per screen was dismal, averaging only around $251.
Over the festive weekend, other films carried the majority of the weight in terms of box office success. However, “Thunderbolts*” managed to hold its ground, dropping only 55 percent and retaining the number one spot. This indicates that positive word of mouth is definitely working in this Marvel Cinematic Universe addition’s favor. In the United States alone, it earned $33 million, bringing its total domestic gross to a robust $128 million.
“Sinners” also held strong, earning $21 million for a combined $218 million stateside.
The news proved grim on another front.
Despite minimal fresh rivals, the action-packed thriller ‘Shadow Force,’ featuring Kerry Washington, struggled during its initial release and garnered only $2 million across more than 2,000 screens.
The worst news? The film cost $60 million.
The film titled “Shadow Force,” featuring Mark Strong, Omar Sy, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph who won an Oscar, was not previewed for critics prior to its release and generated minimal pre-release hype. Its title certainly suggested it would be a streaming release.
Those who examined the item expressed disapproval, as indicated by its “rotten” rating of 32%. However, general audiences seem to hold a different opinion, with a consumer-rated “fresh” score of 82%.
Regardless of the outcome, it seems that 2025 will likely be another year of significant box office disappointments for Hollywood, with “The Alto Knights,” “Mickey 17,” and “Wolf Man” already on that list.
