As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who has witnessed numerous live-action remakes, I must admit that the anticipation for “Snow White” has been a rollercoaster ride of excitement and skepticism. However, after hearing Rachel Zegler’s enchanting rendition of “Waiting on a Wish,” I find myself leaning more towards the side of eagerly awaiting this film.
Disney’s upcoming live-action remake might inadvertently be perceived as the most contentious and critically panned production from Disney thus far, but this hasn’t deterred the PR machine from continuing its momentum as the movie’s 2025 release approaches. On Christmas Day, Disney shared a clip of singing one of the original songs composed for the film, and predictably, social media reactions ranged from adoration to criticism.
The recently composed tune titled “Waiting on a Wish” was written by the duo behind La La Land, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. It’s one of several new pieces that will be integrated into timeless favorites like “Whistle While You Work” and “Hi-Ho.” Check out the video below for a sneak peek.
Despite some critics’ negative remarks about the post, it was predominantly applauded, particularly for Rachel Zegler’s exceptional singing as Disney’s inaugural Princess and the song itself. This positive reaction might signal a shift in sentiment towards the film, which has faced considerable backlash since its initial cast announcements. While this respite may be brief, it’s likely that when Snow White is released in theaters, it will deliver another strong earnings for Disney, offering a significant boost compared to the slightly underwhelming box office performance of Mufasa: The Lion King this weekend.
