Despite Disney trying to minimize public appearances for actresses Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot amidst a flurry of ongoing controversies, the scaled-back Hollywood premiere of the new live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s debut film has sparked further discontent from another cast member. The subdued premiere of the movie “Snow White” might be sparing its leading actresses from addressing uncomfortable questions, but one actor is voicing their displeasure about the situation.
Known for my swashbuckling adventures in films like “Pirates of the Caribbean,” I find myself voicing the gruff dwarf Grumpy this time around – a character not exactly known for his cheerfulness. I can’t help but express my displeasure over Disney’s recent choice to divert attention away from the actors of “Snow White” during their press coverage, casting a shadow over the hard work put in by the entire cast and crew, both on and off-camera. To me, it seems like Disney is catering to internet bullies and detracting from the effort that goes into making these magical movies.
According to TMZ, Kibba appears to have expressed his disappointment and anger over the handling of the movie premiere. He pointed out that the political and personal views of Zegler and Gadot, which have been a hot topic on sites like X, are causing the film to be unfairly criticized. Kibba, a fan of Pirates, also noted that Snow White deserved a grand premiere but instead is only receiving a low-key screening.
‘Snow White’ Has Become One of the Most Troubled Movies in Disney’s History
The live-action adaptations of some beloved Disney animated movies have generated substantial earnings at the box office, suggesting a vast audience demand for such productions. Titles like The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King hinted at this trend, prompting Disney to accelerate plans to reimagine nearly all of their animated feature films from their almost 90-year history.
While some of their latest films have not performed as well as anticipated and have sparked criticism regarding racial swapping and alterations to storylines and stereotypical character portrayals, it’s worth noting that Halle Bailey, the star of The Little Mermaid, experienced an overwhelming amount of unjustified backlash online following her casting as Ariel. This was a concern she was reportedly made aware of prior to accepting the role.
Ever since Rachel Zegler was chosen to portray Snow White in the upcoming Disney movie, there’s been a wave of criticism that has overshadowed the project. This negative response, combined with the political views expressed by both Zegler and Gadot, has turned this film into a public relations predicament it can’t seem to escape. Other disputes regarding the depiction of the dwarfs have also arisen; rumors even swirled about them being replaced by magical creatures entirely. As for the movie’s future, it remains unclear whether Disney can perform a miraculous last-minute intervention to save it from becoming a flop or if this mountain of controversy is simply too steep for the film to surmount. With its release approaching, we’ll soon find out if there’s any magic left in Disney to turn things around.
