‘So Much More To This Story’: Directors Of Docuseries About Ex-Grey’s Anatomy Writer Reveal What Was Left Out, Including An Anna Delvey Reference

As a seasoned gamer of life and television dramas, I have to admit that the behind-the-scenes saga of Grey’s Anatomy has become as captivating as the show itself. The latest twist, the untold tales of Elisabeth Finch and her web of deception, is a rollercoaster ride that even the most imaginative scriptwriters might struggle to pen.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share some intriguing behind-the-scenes tales about my favorite show, Grey’s Anatomy. This season, we’re diving into the 21st round of drama, and it feels like deja vu given the show’s rich history of on-screen turbulence.

Longtime fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” have weathered the storm of Katherine Heigl’s conflicts with Shonda Rhimes and tales about Patrick Dempsey’s difficult behavior, which resulted in McDreamy’s exit. However, a Vanity Fair article by Evgenia Peretz and a subsequent three-part documentary series titled “Anatomy of Lies” (streamable with a Peacock subscription), produced by Peretz and her husband David Schisgall, revealed a story as astonishing as anything that ever happened on the show. Yet, there were still aspects of Elisabeth Finch’s deceit that weren’t included in the final narrative. Schisgall shared with The Wrap:

There are numerous elements, including the self-portrait Elisabeth created as Anna Delvey, along with the intriguing tale about her reacting to the term ‘hot dog’ and leaving the room, that unfortunately couldn’t be incorporated into the show.

In addition to other factors, it was brought up on the show “Anatomy of Lies” that Elisabeth Finch felt uneasy during rainy weather and when guns were mentioned, due to PTSD stemming from a close friend’s death in the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in 2018. However, it was later revealed that she had no personal connections to those who perished in this event.

However, what truly captivates me is the entire Anna Delvey saga. Anna Delvey, also known as Anna Sorokin, has been making headlines recently due to her amusing reaction to being eliminated from Dancing with the Stars. This woman posed as a wealthy heiress and managed to infiltrate New York’s high-class social circle, defrauding people and banks of significant amounts of money. Her tale is the basis for the Netflix series Inventing Anna, produced by Shonda Rhimes. Given that Elisabeth Finch might have found a piece of herself in Delvey, I’m eager to learn more about this story that didn’t make it into the final cut.

An allegation that was omitted from the final version concerned Elizabeth Finch’s spouse, Jenn Beyer, and Finch’s brother. The writer claimed that the brother had physically abused her as a child and later took his own life while she was working on Grey’s. However, it has been reported that Finch’s brother is still alive today. Evgenia Peretz stated this.

Among the intricate untruths we couldn’t fit into our discussion was that following her brother’s supposed suicide, she embarked on a vacation to Hawaii with Jenn. She deceived her colleagues at Grey’s Anatomy by claiming she was seeking to reunite her deceased brother’s love child with his Filipino mother, which was entirely fabricated. While in Hawaii with Jenn, she was actually scouting for locations for an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

It seems that Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall might not carry on with following Elisabeth Finch’s story, as per Evgenia, it appears quite improbable.

It seems unlikely that we’ll cover it further, but the idea of a mini-series about it is fascinating. I’d surely enjoy watching that!

The ex-writer of “Grey’s Anatomy” may have concluded their work with the couple, but there seems to be more potential ideas to explore from this source. If anyone were interested in creating a series based on it, they would be open to discussing their research findings. Schisgall stated:

We’d be delighted to share all our insights about it, as there’s a wealth of additional information in this tale that we’re eager to impart to others.

It’s astonishing how much wasn’t included in “Anatomy of Lies,” considering the extent Elisabeth Finch went to maintain her deception. If you’re curious about this incredible, unbelievable tale, you can stream it now on Peacock. And don’t forget to tune into NBC every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET for the latest episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy.
