When it was revealed that Adam Levine would be back for The Voice’s 27th season in the 2025 TV lineup, it seemed likely that John Legend would make a formidable rival for the singer who participated in every season up to number 16 before taking a break. Now, as the Blind Auditions are about to conclude, the prophecy appears to have come true, and the multi-award-winning artist had a humorous remark to share about their joint history on the singing competition.
In the present streaming season (requiring a Peacock subscription), Adam Levine and John Legend are not reuniting for the first time. Their paths had crossed previously in 2019, and during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Legend humorously shared a amusing rumor about their time together, saying:
In other words, the last time he appeared was during Season 16, which happened to be my debut season. Some people suggest that I’m the one who eliminated him, but in truth, it wasn’t me. However, he’s returned now, making us the original cast members again.
It’s amusing to ponder that John Legend, known for his gentle demeanor among the other coaches on The Voice, might have played a role in Adam Levine’s departure from the show, coinciding with Legend’s entry onto it.
Currently, John Legend is in his 10th season on the show, and while fans are thrilled that Adam Levine has returned, it seems that the singer of “All of Me” might not feel the same way about the entire experience. Legend has earned a title as a Four-Chair King, a coach who can persuade artists to turn all four chairs, giving them the unique opportunity to select from all four famous mentors.
Nevertheless, Adam Levine has a history of triumphs, having claimed three victories across 16 seasons compared to John Legend’s single victory. This track record could make him an appealing choice for contestants in the upcoming Season 27. Interestingly, out of the seven Four-Chair Turns observed during the first four nights of Blind Auditions, Adam has secured five, while John Legend has taken the remaining two (one of which Adam was initially blocked from).
The singers’ background with “The Voice” extends beyond Season 16, since John Legend functioned as an advisor for Team Adam during Season 12. In the video below, they discuss their show history and competing against Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé.
The friendly competition between Adam Levine and John Legend may not escalate to the levels Adam experienced with Blake Shelton in terms of popularity. Yet, it’s quite an odd synchronization that Adam’s last season coincided with John’s debut on “The Voice.
To find out which contestant will claim victory in Season 27 and boast about their triumph, make sure to catch the latest episodes every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The Blind Auditions conclude on March 3, followed by the Battle round commencing on March 10.
