Another week goes by and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still making headlines.
For a while now, Detective Pikachu held the crown as the top-earning live-action video game film. However, it seems that Sonic 3 has recently unseated it from its position.
Sonic 3 is Now the Highest-Grossing Live-Action Video Game Movie
As per Box Office Mojo, the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” overtook Detective Pikachu’s box office record of $450 million last weekend by climbing to an impressive $462.5 million, steadily moving closer to hitting the billion-dollar mark.
It’s worth mentioning that as of now, the top-earning video game movie ever made is “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” featuring Chris Pratt and Jack Black, raking in a staggering $1.36 billion globally. However, since this film is entirely animated, the upcoming “Sonic 3” has the distinction of being recognized as the highest-grossing live-action video game movie to date.
As far as just plain video game movies, Super Mario still manages to sit at the top.
It’s also possible that Sonic 3 will eventually reach a billion dollars in earnings. Despite the strong numbers already being reported, the studio might decide to invest in heavy marketing to boost ticket sales even further, given its success at the box office.
Well, let me tell you from a gamer’s perspective, sometimes even the best-laid plans don’t pan out as expected. Take the situation with that movie, Morbius, for instance. Sony thought they could reboot it after it became an internet sensation – a meme icon, if you will. But alas, when they tried to bring it back to the big screen, folks just didn’t show up like they used to. It was a lesson learned, I guess, that sometimes even the most viral ideas don’t guarantee success in the real world.
However, in the case of Sonic 3, it’s worth noting that many people find it to be a well-liked film; thus, offering additional scenes or hints about Sonic 4 might encourage audiences to revisit the cinema for another viewing.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4
As a die-hard Sonic fan, I can’t contain my excitement! It’s officially confirmed that we’ll be getting a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog film, and from what I’ve seen in the third movie, it seems like Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are set to make their big screen debut! While Amy is undeniably a beloved member of the Sonic family, let’s not forget that Metal Sonic was actually Sonic’s first formidable rival in the games. Even before Shadow the Hedgehog came along, Metal Sonic was causing trouble for our speedy hero!
In the games, Metal Sonic was often viewed as Doctor Robotnik’s most impressive invention, capable of matching Sonic’s speed. While Sonic is renowned for his compassionate nature, Metal Sonic is a mechanical being devoid of feelings, and his singular objective in life is to outshine the original Sonic by embarrassing him.
In a twist from typical storylines, where only one Metal Sonic is usually involved, it’s uncertain how multiple Metal Sonics might alter the narrative in upcoming movies. However, there’s a buzz circulating from trusted insider DanielRPK, who has a reputation for leaking details about major productions, suggesting that time travel may play a role in the storyline. Given this, some fans are optimistic that Silver the Hedgehog might join the cast too.
Instead of three films featuring a new character initially battling Sonic before eventually becoming an ally, it’ll be refreshing to introduce a character who is already an immediate friend to Sonic and his companions in the next series.
Additionally, there has been a call from fans for the inclusion of Rouge the Bat in future films. However, whether or not the upcoming movies are prepared to feature characters other than Sonic the Hedgehog remains to be seen.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is now available on digital.
