The upcoming installment of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” series, number four, is all geared up for a high-speed premiere in cinemas nationwide on March 19, 2027.
Paramount Pictures had been planning to release Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the upcoming sequel of the successful film series based on the classic Sega video game, sometime in spring 2027. The latest movie in the franchise, Sonic 3, was just released last month. To date, the combined box office earnings for this series have exceeded $1 billion.
Information regarding who will write or direct the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog film has yet to be disclosed, as plot details remain undisclosed as well. The first three movies were directed by Jeff Fowler, with him also being involved in the script for the third film alongside Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington.
Over the recent weekend, “Sonic 3” surpassed all other titles within the series to become the highest-earning, raking in over $422 million at global box offices (with Keanu Reeves joining the cast as Shadow for this particular release).
In the third installment, Ben Schwartz reappears as the voice of our title character, while Jim Carrey takes on a double role, portraying both Dr. Robotnik and his grandpa, the eccentric scientist’s elder version.
Completing the ensemble for the Sonic 3 cast were Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter. Furthermore, Keanu Reeves lent his voice to Shadow the Hedgehog, Idris Elba voiced Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey provided the voice for Tails in this production as well.
The franchise began when Sonic the Hedgehog was released in February 2020, and it later produced the Paramount+ series titled Knuckles, which premiered in 2024.
