Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Rom-Com ‘Jane Austen Wrecked My Life’ Before Toronto Bow

As a lifelong Janeite (a die-hard fan of Jane Austen), I am beyond excited about Sony Pictures Classics acquiring the world rights to Laura Piani’s debut feature, “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life.” Being an avid reader and re-reader of Austen’s works since my teens, I can confidently say that this film promises to be a delightful twist on a timeless tale.

Sony Pictures Classics has stepped in to secure significant global distribution rights for Laura Piani’s first film, titled “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life“, before its September 9 worldwide debut at the Toronto Film Festival.

The American distributor specializing in unique releases is planning to introduce the French romantic comedy titled “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life” across North America, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. This film, centered around a budding author named Agathe, features an intricate love story reminiscent of classic Jane Austen novels, with Camille Rutherford, Pablo Pauly, Charlie Anson, and Annabelle Lengronne in leading roles.

As a gamer, I’m pumped to learn that “Laura Piani’s debut” has been put into the capable hands of Sony Pictures Classics – a studio known for breathtakingly capturing Jane Austen’s world like no other on-screen. Their longstanding expertise in stories like this means they’ll handle it with the precision and skill it deserves. I can’t wait to follow its cinematic journey, confident that it will be a fitting addition to SPC’s esteemed catalog. This was shared by The Bureau Sales, who made the distribution deal with Sony Pictures Classics, in a statement on Tuesday.

The movie takes inspiration from Austen’s timeless novels, as director Piani adds a modern twist to the traditional romantic comedy.

“For quite some time now, we’ve been keen on this project. The fame of Jane Austen has skyrocketed recently, and a fresh, top-notch adaptation titled Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, helmed by first-time director Laura Piani, promises to resonate with theatergoers, according to Sony Pictures Classics.”

The movie, titled “Gabrielle Dumon’s Production,” receives funding from French broadcasting companies such as CANAL+ and CINÉ. Responsibility for international distribution lies with the Bureau Sales team.
