As a huge fan of Sony Pictures Entertainment and its continuous growth within the media industry, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Drew Shearer’s recent promotion to executive vp and chief financial officer. With nearly 30 years of dedication and expertise at Sony under his belt, Shearer has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the team.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has promoted Drew Shearer to executive vp and chief financial officer.
On October 1, he will take over the position, with Philip Rowley departing to become the CFO of a Hollywood studio starting in 2016.
For over 25 years, Shearer has been a valued employee at Sony, starting her journey with the company in 1996. Initially, she took up the role of internal audit director for Sony Corporation of America. Later on, she moved on to become the finance chief of Sony Pictures Television Studios. Furthermore, she held the position of divisional CFO for the global businesses of Sony Pictures Television.
In 2014, Shearer was given a new role as executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for the studio’s group divisions. His responsibilities included managing the finance department for the corporate sectors, content creation, production, marketing, sales, and both linear and digital networks.
“Drew has an intricate understanding of our business and his financial expertise and optimizations have significantly improved our company’s performance. We are excited for his sharp guidance during this exciting period in our industry,” stated Tony Vinciquerra, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, on Monday.
Rowley expressed in his own words: “I’ve truly enjoyed my time at Sony Pictures. It’s been an honor to collaborate with such gifted and dedicated individuals. The past few years have brought much success to this company, and I consider myself fortunate for being a part of that achievement.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment, the part of Sony that deals with films and TV, recently had success in theaters with “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” Meanwhile, Sony’s Game and Network Services division, a distinct branch from Sony Pictures Entertainment, handles PlayStation hardware and software sales along with managing the PlayStation Network.
In recent transactions, Sony Pictures Entertainment has purchased Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, marking the first time a significant Hollywood studio has owned a cinema since over seven decades.
