Sony Pushes ‘Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie to May 2027 Release

Sony postponed the cinema debut of its movie based on the live-action video game ‘The Legend of Zelda‘ to May 7, 2027.

It seems the shift in release date on March 26, 2027 is likely due to production-related matters. Sony, the distributor of this film that comes from Nintendo and Avi Arad’s production house (Arad Productions), is working together with Nintendo, represented by Shigeru Miyamoto, who produces the movie in collaboration with Arad.

On Monday, Miyamoto shared on Twitter that the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda needs a little more time to ripen in the greenhouse before its release. Essentially, Miyamoto stated, due to production requirements, we are moving the release date of the movie from its previously announced schedule to May 7, 2027. This means a slight delay compared to our initial plans, but we’re using this additional time to ensure that the movie is as high-quality as possible.

Wes Ball, the director behind last year’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” is taking charge of a new project – a film adaptation of the 1986 Nintendo gaming series with the same name, known as The Legend of Zelda. This fantasy-themed game franchise revolves around two main characters, Link and Princess Zelda, as they strive to save their kingdom, Hyrule, from the malevolent Ganon.

As a gamer, it’d be a thrill to see my beloved characters from Zelda go head-to-head with the titans of Godzilla and Kong in their upcoming movie battle, both hitting theaters on March 26, 2027. Just a week before that epic clash, Paramount is set to unveil the fourth installment of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, bringing the classic video game series to life on the big screen.
