Caution: Spoilers for the fourth episode of Yellowjackets’ third season are now available only through a Paramount+ subscription.
Or, more casually:
Watch out! If you haven’t seen the fourth episode of Yellowjackets Season 3 yet, here come the spoilers – but only if you have a Paramount+ account!
Since the start of “Yellowjackets” Season 3, I’ve been on edge, wondering what nightmares lie ahead for the high school soccer team who’ve survived so long in the wilderness that they’ve resorted to cannibalism not once, but twice. As winter has passed and things seem to be improving for the girls (and Travis), with Natalie as their Antler Queen, issues have surfaced following Coach Ben’s return.
During our discussions for the Yellowjackets Season 3 interviews, I delved into the thoughts of two pivotal actors regarding the possible outcome of Coach Ben following the intense and surprising trial depicted in Episode 4.

What Two Yellowjackets Stars Said About The Trial Of Coach Ben
Among all characters, Sophie Thatcher’s Natalie and Samantha Hanratty’s Misty were arguably the ones who experienced the deepest impact from the trial of Coach Ben.
During their time in the wilderness, Natalie developed a strong rapport with Coach Ben that seemed to earn him her trust more than anyone else. As Antler Queen, she found herself in the challenging position of needing to bring Coach before a trial to keep the Yellowjackets satisfied. Yet, I don’t think she anticipated them reaching a guilty verdict.
Here’s what Thatcher said about the events of the episode:
In my perspective, there’s no denying the growing rift we witness. You can clearly observe Shauna gaining considerable influence, and this is due to her cunning manipulation. People are in such a fragile state right now, yearning for a strong leader they can trust. Unfortunately, Natalie seems to be struggling with wielding that power at the moment because of intimidation. It’s all about intimidation. I fear we are witnessing an ugly side of Shauna, and it appears many are being deceived by it.
At first, it appeared as though Coach Ben had gained support from the Yellowjackets; however, Shauna managed to influence the voting against him, leading to his eventual conviction.
Hanratty expressed his personal views regarding the episode following Misty’s assignment to represent him during their “trial.” To put it simply, she said:
It appears to be a sorrowful moment for Misty as I believe she genuinely felt that she could rescue him. Previously, she had managed to save Ben twice – firstly by amputating his leg and applying a tourniquet, and secondly by preventing him from taking his own life. However, when her efforts fall short, it’s heartrending. The upcoming episode will focus on determining what actions they’ll take next.
Oh boy, I’m really worried about Coach Ben and the repercussions of this team dispute. The performers’ insights on the matter have me pondering yet another speculation to join the expanding fan theories regarding the show.

Sophie Thatcher’s Comments Have Me Wondering If Shauna Could Become Antler Queen
Regardless of the circumstances, it seems likely that this episode will lead to the tragic demise of Coach Ben. Whether the Yellowjackets choose to take his life for its protein-rich meat, he chooses to end his life or leaves and perishes in the wilderness, I have a strong feeling that we’ll be saying goodbye to him soon.
Considering both my acquaintance with Natalie and Thatcher’s comments about the storyline, it seems plausible that either the Yellowjackets may overthrow Natalie to crown Shauna, or perhaps Natalie might choose to relinquish her position.
I’m convinced it’s not merely due to Thatcher mentioning Shauna during the trial discussion, but also because when I probed her about being crowned Antler Queen elsewhere in the interview, she made that statement.
This upcoming season promises an intriguing shift as Shauna assumes control. I believe the role of Antler Queen demands actions that I suspect Natalie may find difficult, as she seems less inclined towards such questionable deeds.
Shauna, indeed, harbors a great deal within her. She’s suffered devastating losses – her best friend and a baby born under challenging circumstances in the wilderness. Moreover, she’s grappling with the burden of betrayal, having been involved with her best friend’s boyfriend. It’s also worth mentioning that future events suggest Shauna may be capable of violent acts, such as killing others and dismembering their bodies. Given the emergence of a cult-like dynamic among the Yellowjackets in the show, it seems unlikely that Natalie will assume this role.
To be honest, I can’t help but feel a shiver down my spine as I ponder over what the rest of this exciting season holds for us. This Friday, we’ll uncover more about the aftermath of Coach Ben’s trial. Until then, don’t forget to catch up on what Sophie Thatcher and Christina Ricci shared about bidding farewell to Juliette Lewis’ character, Nat, at the end of Season 2.
