Speed 3 With Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Finally Gets Promising Update From Studio Boss

As a die-hard fan of the iconic action film “Speed”, I am overjoyed to hear that there might be a third installment in this beloved franchise! Having grown up watching Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves’ thrilling performances, the idea of seeing them back together on the big screen is simply exhilarating.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share an exciting update about a potential third installment in the high-octane action franchise, famously known as Speed. During a comprehensive chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Asbell, the boss at 20th Century Studios, dished out updates on some of the most anticipated franchises, such as Predator, Alien, and Planet of the Apes. In this conversation, Asbell courageously declared that they are open to bringing Speed 3 to the silver screen, provided the concept is strong enough. Let’s all cross our fingers that it won’t be another Speed 2: Cruise Control experience!

“Hollywood is brave enough. We are brave enough. We are sitting by the phone. (Laughs)

Among the latest films yet untouched by remakes, this one is particularly intriguing, and it requires an exceptional concept to captivate both Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. This unique idea must spark their interest, as that’s what will draw audiences in. To be clear, this title holds significant value for us, but we wouldn’t approach it casually or forcefully; instead, they would actively contribute to the development of this concept.

During a special screening of the 1994 action hit “Speed” at Beyond Fest, Asbell mentions Sandra Bullock’s comments regarding a potential third film in the series. Interestingly, this was the first time Bullock, co-star Keanu Reeves, and director Jan de Bont appeared together on stage. In honor of “Speed’s” 30th anniversary, Bullock expressed her view that Hollywood is now insufficiently bold to produce a third installment in the franchise about a bus that wouldn’t stop.

“This is the senior adaptation; it won’t be quick. The odd man in the greenish jacket over there is responsible for all these changes. Today, he seems so calm and tender, yet I can’t help but think that this isn’t the same man I used to know. However, he’s the one who brought the enthusiasm and the concept together, understood what the viewers were after and made everyone rise to the occasion. So, what film would satisfy Jan’s intellect and genius?

As a passionate cinephile, I ponder if our current cinematic landscape is prepared to embrace such a challenge. It’s uncertain whether the industry is willing to take the risk and show the courage needed. Perhaps my doubts are misplaced. If he can’t translate his creative visions into something that resonates with viewers, then in my eyes, he’s fallen short. I’m at a loss as to what could possibly satisfy our audience’s expectations.

Speed Remains a Beloved Action Movie Classic

1994 saw the release of “Speed,” a thrilling action film that features Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper, and Jeff Daniels, with Keanu Reeves as Jack Traven, an LAPD SWAT officer who finds himself in an intriguing high-stakes situation. The plot revolves around a bomb-wielding terrorist seeking revenge, who has rigged a bus so that it must maintain a speed above 50 miles per hour to prevent it from exploding.

Although no news has been shared regarding a potential third installment, it’s evident that Asbell is receptive to the concept. However, if a Speed 3 were to materialize, the creator of the first film, Graham Yost, might draw some inspiration from Keanu Reeves’ highly successful John Wick series.

Keanu’s point seems to be that if a script is strong enough, it’s what truly matters. In other words, when faced with a good script, one doesn’t have much choice but to accept it. For instance, my quip for Speed 3 was, “This time, it’s 60,” meaning just a bit faster, but essentially the same thing. It’s like us actors; we’re all around 60 years old now. Making Speed or John Wick films is like that: each one feels similar, yet they’re enjoyable and intense. I find them satisfying, although brutal at times.
