Spider-Man 4 Wasn't Part Of Any Marvel Announcements At D23 or Comic-Con, So Where Does That Leave Tom Holland's Sequel?

As a die-hard Marvel fan who has been following the MCU since its inception, I must say that the anticipated arrival of Spider-Man 4 is a subject close to my heart. From what I’ve gathered from various reliable sources and my own speculations, it seems plausible that we’ll see Spidey swing back into action post-2027, following the epic battles in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Previously, our beloved Spider-Man (Tom Holland), from the blockbuster movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” was seen soaring through Manhattan’s night skies, embarking on his crimefighting journey while keeping his identity hidden from his loved ones. However, his dedicated fans remember every detail. We eagerly awaited updates about the upcoming sequel, “Spider-Man 4,” which has sparked numerous speculations but no concrete information yet. Some theories suggest it might focus on street-level events, while others hint at the return of the symbiote that was introduced by Tom Hardy’s Venom in the MCU. As of now, we can only guess; nothing is confirmed.

Marvel Studios recently conducted two significant events, one at San Diego Comic Con’s Hall H and another during D23 in Anaheim. These gatherings primarily showcased a number of upcoming Marvel films such as “Captain America: New World Order” and “The Fantastic Four: Initial Footsteps.” At D23, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige emphasized more on the forthcoming Marvel TV series like “Ironheart” and the much-awaited “Daredevil: Rebirth.” Although we received some hints for the animated “Spider-Man: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider,” there was no fresh news regarding “Spider-Man 4.”

Indeed, it’s common knowledge that the Spider-Man films are owned by Sony, and they have sole discretion over any new productions. However, if Marvel had intentions for additional Spider-Man stories, we would likely have been informed about them during events like Comic Con or D23. For instance, when Marvel scheduled Tom Holland’s first two MCU movies, they also brought the cast of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” on stage at Hall H. Recall that instance?

Could it be that we might be in for a longer wait than expected for Spider-Man 4? Frankly, I’m growing concerned about the timeline, as my estimations aren’t overly optimistic.

We might see Spider-Man before we see Spider-Man 4.

It might seem unusual, but let me clarify. Marvel has scheduled four films for 2025, but it’s probable that one will need to be rescheduled. Here’s why: Marvel Studios prefers not to put out four movies annually. They’ve found that releasing one or two movies a year – as with Deadpool and Wolverine this summer – turns each film into an event, potentially pushing the box office earnings for that movie over $1 billion.

As a lifelong Marvel fan who has followed the evolution of the franchise for over two decades, I am beyond excited about the upcoming slate of films for 2025. From what I have gathered, the lineup includes “Captain America: Brave New World” in February, “Thunderbolts” in May, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in July, and “Blade” in November.

As a long-time Marvel fan who has grown up with the Avengers and their adventures, I am absolutely thrilled by the latest news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Having followed the MCU since its inception, I have eagerly awaited each new installment and been captivated by the development of the characters.

And I think that’s the most realistic place for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to show up again.

As a longtime fan of Marvel movies, I eagerly anticipate the release of Spider-Man 4 in the MCU. With my extensive knowledge of the universe and its timeline, I believe that there are limited opportunities to drop this highly anticipated film between now and May 2026.

Of course, Tom Holland’s rendition of Spider-Man would likely join the cast of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” set for release on May 7, 2027. It’s speculated that this film might feature not only Tom Holland but also Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in their respective roles as Spider-Man. Post-“Avengers: Secret Wars,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may undergo a reboot, requiring fresh leadership to guide it forward.

And that’s when I think the more traditional Spider-Man 4 might land in theaters.

Realistically, when might Spider-Man 4 happen?

Currently, as mentioned by my colleague Adam Holmes, Marvel Studios has vacant slots scheduled for 2026, specifically in February and November. It’s plausible that Blade may shift from its 2025 release and occupy one of these openings, possibly the November date. The February slot seems ideal for Armor Wars given it could capitalize on the 2025 Ironheart series. This adjustment pushes us into 2027, where potential sequels such as Shang-Chi 2 or Doctor Strange 3 seem more fitting preludes to the colossal Avengers: Secret Wars. The end credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hints at incursions, a concept I anticipate will be crucial for Doctor Doom’s introduction into the MCU. (For those interested, you might want to catch up on Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars series to stay informed about these possibilities.)

Anticipating the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is looking forward and marking down two release dates in 2027: one on July 23rd and another on November 5th, following the end of the Multiverse Saga. Just as my friend Adam suspects, I also think that these spots will likely be reserved for the next Spider-Man film (on July 23rd) and the upcoming X-Men movie in the MCU on November 5th.

As a long-time Marvel fan and someone who has closely followed the development of the Spider-Man franchise, I can confidently say that if there were earlier plans for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Kevin Feige would have certainly made it known at either San Diego Comic Con or D23. With my years of experience in the entertainment industry and understanding of how these events function as a platform for major announcements, I believe that any significant news regarding future projects would have been shared with fans during one of these high-profile events.

As a dedicated Marvel fan, I strongly believe that the dates they secured after the “Secret Wars” could potentially mark the release of Spider-Man 4. However, what’s exciting is that Tom Holland might play a significant role in the Avengers movies slated for 2026 and 2027. After these two epic encounters, he’ll likely steer the Marvel Cinematic Universe towards its next grand saga. For now, it seems like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is staying put within the universe, but a trip to the big screen looks less imminent.
