Spike Lee’s Star-Studded Cannes Bash for “Highest 2 Lowest” Will Blow Your Mind!

As a die-hard Knicks fan, basking in their victory over the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs with a resounding score of 119-81, I’ve got plenty of reasons to toast – but Spike Lee didn’t need any more! Yet, The Hollywood Reporter and Threads thoughtfully provided an extra cause for celebration by hosting an evening soiree in honor of his Cannes Film Festival selection, “Highest 2 Lowest,” at Hyde Beach by Campari on Sunday.

On Monday, Lee will come back victoriously to the Palais for the world premiere of his Apple Original film in collaboration with A24. He started generating excitement ahead of time – and not just through buzz, but also by serving cocktails by Campari – by attending a beach-themed party with his family. His wife Tonya Lewis Lee, along with their sons Satchel and Jackson Lee, were present.

In Lee’s own words, “Highest 2 Lowest” is a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 film “High and Low”. Starring frequent collaborator Denzel Washington as a wealthy music producer who finds himself in a life-or-death moral quandary when he becomes the target of a ransom demand, the movie also features Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, Wendell Pierce, and Ilfenesh Hadera. Notably, both Hadera and Pierce were present at the film’s premiere event, along with other notable figures such as Guillaume Thevenin, Diamant Blazi, Sally, Paola Locatelli, Mateo Sinet, and Netflix’s Albert Tello, among others.

For the first time, Pierce found himself in Cannes, sharing this fact with THR from within the lavish Campari lounge. He mentioned that he had always promised himself to visit when he was associated with a unique film, and this particular movie certainly fits the bill. To put it mildly, it’s more than just a movie to him. Pierce has collaborated with Lee in the past, their relationship tracing back to his role in the 1996 production titled “Get on the Bus.

Pierce shared a long-standing history with Spike, dating back to Brooklyn. He recalled the early days when Spike began his career; Pierce resided in Fort Greene, only a block from his office, and often encountered him frequently. “I’m overjoyed to be a part of his journey,” Pierce said, “as I believe he embodies the quintessential American spirit of artistic freedom within structure. He masterfully balances technical proficiency with boundless creativity and expression. Thus, it is truly fitting that The Hollywood Reporter honors him in this manner, as it signifies his enduring legacy.
