Woj, or so he’s often called, consistently served as ESPN’s go-to source for basketball updates, beating others to the punch with exclusive stories on trades, injuries, and signings. This relentless pursuit of scoops has earned him a massive online fanbase. He frequently discussed the demanding nature of his job, revealing a never-ending flow of texts and calls that poured in around the clock.
He shared that a particular skill has significantly impacted his life, yet he’s chosen to step away from ESPN and the news industry, noting his post on X. He recognizes the dedication necessary for his position and feels it’s no longer a passion he wishes to pursue. Time is finite, and he desires to use it in pursuits that hold deeper personal significance.
Speaking in high regard for the reporter, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro commended him by saying, “His work ethic is unmatched; he’s incredibly gifted and courageous. He’s been a trailblazer at ESPN, and his commitment to his craft and to fans is the stuff of legends.
Although we’ll surely notice his absence from our daily work, we fully appreciate his choice to prioritize personal changes and take things easier,” Pitaro commented. “We’re confident that he’ll prosper in this new phase of life, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation and backing to him.
At St. Bonaventure University, where the Bonnies reside, it has been announced that Woj will serve as the manager of their basketball program. His responsibilities will involve collaborating with coaches on various significant aspects such as managing “Name, Image, Likeness” (NIL) opportunities and transfer portals.
I’m excited and honored to be back at St. Bonaventure University where I can contribute to the institution, Coach Mark Schmidt, and our top-tier Atlantic 10 men’s basketball team,” Wojnarowski stated in a school-issued release. “In these evolving college sports landscapes, I look forward to joining a championship team that offers both exceptional basketball, extensive media coverage, professional readiness, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, all while providing a close-knit, nurturing academic atmosphere.
Coincidentally, Woj has followed a similar path as another prominent sports media personality, Pete Bevacqua from NBC Sports. Last year, Bevacqua stepped down from his role to take on the position of Athletic Director at Notre Dame University.
