Springstreen Slams “Corrupt, Incompetent, and Treasonous” Trump Administration

Bruce Springsteen appears to have retained none of his former intensity or willingness to challenge authority, as evidenced by his scathing criticism of Donald Trump during a recent concert in Manchester, UK. On Wednesday night, the iconic rocker fiercely denounced the U.S. government, stating that it is being run by a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.

Tonight, the legendary E Street Band takes the stage, summoning the strong influence of creativity, melodies, and rock music during challenging moments,” an impassioned Springsteen expressed as he prepared to perform “Land of Hope and Dreams.

He stated, “In my household, the America I cherish, the America I’ve often described as a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently under the control of a corrupt, inept, and traitorous administration. Tonight, we appeal to everyone who values democracy and our American ideals to join us, speak up against authoritarianism, and let the sound of freedom echo!

During the later part of the concert, as per local news reports, Springsteen resumed his criticism of Trump. According to Stereogum, before performing a solo version of “House Of A Thousand Guitars,” he made a statement: “The ultimate safeguard against power, when the checks and balances of government have failed, is the people – you and me. It’s in our unity around shared values that stands between democracy and authoritarianism. In essence, all we truly possess is each other.

Later in the performance, Stereogum announced that Springsteen delivered a long speech prior to playing “My City Of Ruins.” He said, “There’s some incredibly odd, unsettling, and hazardous things happening at this moment. In America, they are harassing individuals for exercising their right to free speech and expressing their disagreement. This is currently taking place.

In the United States, the wealthiest individuals are finding joy in neglecting the health and well-being of the world’s impoverished children. Meanwhile, they derive pleasure from causing pain to dedicated American workers. They are undoing hard-fought civil rights advancements that have fostered a more equitable and diverse nation. Instead of standing with our trusted allies, they align themselves with autocrats, suppressing those who fight for their freedom. They are cutting funding from universities that refuse to conform to their ideological expectations. Furthermore, they are forcing residents off American streets, stripping them of legal protections, and deporting them to detention centers and prisons in foreign lands. All these actions are currently taking place.

Springsteen asserted, “Many of our elected officials have neglected their duty to safeguard the American people from an unsuitable president and a corrupt administration. They seem disconnected and unaware of what it truly means to be deeply American. The America I’ve been singing about for 50 years is genuine, despite its flaws, and it remains a great nation with remarkable people. We will persevere through this challenging time. I am hopeful because I trust in the truth of James Baldwin’s words, ‘In this world, there isn’t as much humanity as one would wish for, but there is enough.’ Let us hold on to that hope and pray.

Bruce Springsteen, who’s touring globally as “The Land of Hope and Dreams Tour,” has been vocal about his criticism towards former President Donald Trump. Throughout Trump’s term, Springsteen was a consistent critic, even stating in an interview with CBS This Morning in October 2019 that Trump lacked understanding of the true essence of what it means to be an American.
