The second season of “Squid Game” has gained immense popularity on Netflix, accumulating more than 152 million views since its debut on December 26, 2024. Although it hasn’t managed to break into the top two spots (currently held by “Wednesday” and the first season of “Squid Game”), given that it has only been released for 20 days, finishing in the top three is still quite impressive.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share the exciting news about Hwang Dong-hyuk’s South Korean masterpiece, “Squid Game.” According to Variety, this groundbreaking series has set a new record for Netflix as the biggest TV debut ever on their streaming platform. By the fourth day of its release, it had already garnered an astounding 68 million views! A week later, that number doubled, leaving fans everywhere eagerly anticipating what’s next – and we can’t help but speculate when Season 3 might be announced. With “Squid Game” proving to be Netflix’s most valuable golden goose, it seems highly unlikely that this captivating story won’t continue in some form or another.
In the second season of the popular show, our protagonist Seong Gi-hun, who won and survived in the first season, is now a wealthy individual seeking to expose and dismantle the game and its enigmatic creators. Somehow, he manages to get back into the game, viewing it as a chance to bring about its downfall. Although he has some understanding of the system’s workings, the second round introduces new rules and a fresh cast of players, including the mysterious Front Man masquerading as Player 001.
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Was Divisive and Controversial
Ever since I devoured Season 1 of “Squid Game” back in 2021, I found myself pondering over some lingering questions. The intrigue surrounding this deadly game where defeat literally means life loss and victory guarantees immense wealth was palpable. Fast forward to 2024, Netflix delivered the long-awaited sequel, and according to the streaming giant’s data, the response from viewers was overwhelmingly favorable.
The second season of “Squid Game” serves as a solid continuation of the first, but whether it’s up to par is still debatable. Despite its overwhelming success, it hasn’t been without criticism on various fronts, such as character development, casting choices, plot progression, and even the personal histories of some actors. With millions of viewers ready to find fault, it’s no surprise that not everyone was entirely satisfied. However, is there a version of “Squid Game” Season 2 that would satisfy every critic out there? Definitely not.
Anticipating the release of Season 3 in 2025, we can only patiently wait to see how Hwang Dong-hyuk will wrap up the storyline, addressing the lingering questions and making any necessary adjustments – given the mixed responses to Season 2, is it reasonable to think that Netflix might not make some changes for a fitting finale? It’s clear that Season 3 of Squid Game will likely become another hit in Netflix’s library, and we’ll be there to share the news when its viewership record gets broken.
