‘Squid Game’ Breakout Hoyeon Joins Theo James in Kim Jee-woon’s ‘The Hole’

As a passionate cinephile with a soft spot for intriguing narratives and captivating performances, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming thriller, “The Hole,” starring the immensely talented Korean actor, Hoyeon. The fact that she’s sharing the screen with the equally charismatic Theo James is simply the icing on the cake.

Korean actor Hoyeon is joining Theo James in Kim Jee-woon’s The Hole thriller.

As a captivated viewer, I’m drawn into the world of “The Indie,” where I follow the life of James’ character, Owen – a distinguished professor now confined to bed in South Korea, following a heart-wrenching car accident that took his beloved wife, Sandy (Hoyeon), away. In her role as a caring Korean mother-in-law, Yuna tends to Owen, but as she delves deeper into their past, she begins to uncover the secrets of Owen and Sandy’s marriage, potentially derailing his journey towards healing.

Today, Hoyeon started her acting career by featuring in the initial season of Netflix’s hit show “Squid Game.” Additionally, she can be seen in Alfonso Cuarón’s psychological thriller “Disclaimer,” which is streaming on Apple TV+. In the near future, Hoyeon will take on a leading role in Na Hong-jin’s film “Hope,” alongside Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender.

This week, The Veterans are commencing the global sale of the rights to the movie titled “The Hole” at AFM, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling the domestic rights. Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton, and Nick Krishnamurthy are producing for Esmail Corp, with Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster from K Period Media, as well as Andy Sorgie under his Paisan banner, also involved in the production.

Jay Choi, Kim Jee-woon, and Soon Ho Song are collaborating as producers for Anthology Studios on a project titled The Hole. This production is an adaptation of the 2017 novel with the same name by Hye-young Pyun, penned by Christopher Chen.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming movie I’m eagerly anticipating will feature dialogue in both English and Korean, with filming set to commence across the U.S. and Korea from the first half of 2025. This exciting project is under The Veterans banner, the same team behind Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, as well as Walter Salles’ I’m Still Here, featuring Fernanda Montenegro. I can hardly wait to see what they have in store for us next!

Hoyeon is represented by CAA.
