Squid Game Is Ending With Season 3, Here’s Why I Think That’s A Great Decision As A Fan Of The Show

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher with a penchant for intricate narratives, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and anticipation at the news of “Squid Game” Season 2’s imminent arrival on Netflix. Having devoured the original series like a particularly addictive video game, I find myself in agreement with the decision to wrap up the story after three seasons.

Enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating Season 2 of Squid Game for quite some time now, and at last, we have a date to countdown to! In addition to this exciting announcement, we learned that we can stream the original South Korean series, which became Netflix’s most-watched show at one point, the day after Christmas. Furthermore, Season 3 will premiere in 2025, marking the end of the show. While some may find this news disheartening, as a devoted fan who devoured the original with my Netflix membership, I consider it a wise move.

Contrary to many fans who might hope for an endless run of their beloved series like Squid Game, I find myself feeling reassured that the show will conclude after Season 3 instead. There are a few reasons for this, and here’s one perspective:

Squid Game Feels Like A Premise That Shouldn’t Go On Indefinitely

In simpler terms, “Squid Game” is an engaging idea turned into a reality show by Netflix, where contestants compete in the game for cash prizes. By the end of its season, we understand both the game and its underlying principle. The conclusion of Squid Game shows Gi-Hun winning and intending to dismantle the game to prevent more desperate individuals from getting trapped by it.

I strongly support Gi-Hun’s struggle against those controlling the game, fully aware that his success would bring an end to the series. Personally, I prefer the show to wrap up neatly instead of extending indefinitely like the Saw films, where characters seem to get trapped again and again. If it drags on without resolution, the story can start feeling overly contrived for me.

The Series Having A Definitive Plan To End At Season 3 Gives Me Hope The Story Is Fleshed Out

Learning that Squid Game is scheduled to conclude in Season 3 and will be aired in 2025 brings me joyful news. Although Netflix has been known for prematurely canceling series, I must commend them for deciding to end one of their most successful shows possibly before fans may want it to continue.

It seems reasonable to infer that since Season 3 marks the end of the series, the storyline of Gi-Hun and Squid Game has a clear start, progression, and conclusion. While there may be future spin-offs for the show, we won’t be following Gi-Hun through multiple seasons as he repeatedly participates in the game to uncover its secrets and dismantle it. Repeating this pattern, as suggested, can become repetitive, and a show could easily overuse such a formula until the concept loses its freshness.

Having made a strong impact over three seasons, Squid Game could potentially establish itself among Netflix’s greatest series ever. However, to solidify this claim, its upcoming seasons must deliver high-quality content and demonstrate that it’s not just a temporary sensation, but truly one of the best shows with universal appeal.

The highly-anticipated second season of Squid Game will stream on Netflix starting December 26th, with a third season slated for 2025. Though I’m eager to see it immediately, there are numerous other exciting Netflix shows available for us to savor until then.
